Some late thoughts.

Not a professional but sharing my experience and changes id like to see.

Honestly, i think its tiring to see the constant 'self-help' toxic positivity stuff. Heres what i like to say, lots of ppl are a mosiac, they have their own history, likes, needs etc. When you are fresh out of a abusice or toxic enviorment, or are still in it, you need a guide. Seriously. If you were never taught safety, trying to form it with urself will feel like trying to build a home by mimicing what u see on youtube. Thats not to say u cant get somewhere with atleast trying to do some help for urself, heck even reaching out is by all means techniqually helping urself becus instead of spiraling and the feeling only growing u get help from someone. But u need a guide, a therapist definitly, and u need a example of safety and a safe person. So definitly find a friend, a lover, a family figure that is safe, genuinly safe. Theres something that happens when ur safe and u have a history of trauma and most commonly ill say cptsd since thats my experience, but i believe it can happen to anyone whos been in prolonged trauma and stress, ur emotions unthaw. The anger, rage, sadness, depression, fear, anxiety unthaw. This is why its IMPORTANT, that the ppl who are meant to support u are not 'quick dip postivites' where they show u that support up until theyre too overwhlemned and dip without even processing or asking whats going on or considering. Becus once that happens, its gonna make it a bit harder to trust, wont it? Now a safe person with stable support and safety, who can manage that would probably slowly train u to trust safety again, they might not be perfect but depending on how they repair, they might prove to be safe. Consisten signs of safety with someone can slowly shift what ur nervous system knows abt safety and danger and the enviorment. HEres what ill say, theres 3 types of safeties in my view, inner safety : safety with urself, presence, emotions dont control you, relational safety: ur circle is emotionally + physically safe, understanging, loving caring all that wonderfulness, outer safety: ur enviorment is safe, ur able to be free and not try n shrink for someone or something, u understand where u are and u have a space that is physically safe and emotionally safe and expressive / personlized by you. Now i get ost of my info from @ melissaromano on instantgrams shes a somatic therapist , currently still achieving her masters in socail work i believe?? and she has had experience with these things and i have tried em out and, i must say they have been the backbone (i dislike this word but have to use it in terms of the importance) of my regulation and keeping me sane. What i have learned is no matter how much ppl want to deny, strive away, reject it, ur body IS primal, YES we evolved but out nervous system, still acts the way it acts becus it is primal. It does not care if u look weird it cares about keeping u alive no matter what it costs. But, ofcourse we can do things to make our lives less survival esc. Like grounding +oreinting to time and space, play even (engage in sum fun and safe), mindfulness (be aware of ur emotions + sensations), somatics too. Emotional support, we are socail beings and we need no matter how much this toxic 'self help' thing tries to say u dont need someone, u need ppl, u need to socailze in any form possible and hopefully to a much more desirable way. There is also basic needs, and i struggle with this aswell, sleep , food, physical activity, socailizing etc. Hygene all of that plays a very important role and i think should be looked at first, (eyeing the clock rn oops) Ive heard abt window of tolerancce and building capacity, well first u need stability. I beleive that if u are still in a abusive situation/toxic enviorment, it will make u 'primal' what im saying is u will reach a point where u act in anger, sadness, fear or how they call it reactive "abuse" (again not abuse just when a victim reaches a very low state but also starst defending themselves which defending is normal) and u will probably stay hypervigilent until u leave ur situation. Im not a expert but i have lived experience and im still in my situation so ill say, definitly need a safe person like a therapist, and definitly not one that enables the abuse, ive learned enabling can unfortunatly come from 'postive intent' which is like 'oh dont pay attention to them theyre jsut like that', 'just ignore them', 'dont stress'. These sound wonderful, however it does not last, that relief doesnt last cus u will try not to give attention and then u do and u get confused "whys it no working" well..becus it is a dangerous situation, and it is harming ur mental health dear. Someone who can guide u thru and out of the situation would be charming. and helpful, someone who can give u emotional support, resources, comfort, even protection if they can ,would be phenomenal. finding someone like that or atleast similar would be great. then once u get the chance , leaving the situation. and ive heard you can heal around it, so not during the abusive moment, but around it when u do have that time and space, try building atleast a small relationship with urself, i have tried the self help i have, and its not rlly that structal like ppl say it is espc if ur in these situations. However outside the abusive moments, slowly starting to build safety, like the methods i listed above can build a anchor in you that will give u some resilience in those harsh moments so that it becomes harder for u to loose urself to tht moment. Self-soothing helps aswell. Self validating even too. Now, i wish ppl can understand this. Reassurance is needed. It builds someone, im not sure by the bad rep it gets, but i feel like if someone in this situation came up to u and asked "am i worthy" i think they genuinly want to hear someone comfort them and help them out and rebuild something that was tainted. Reassurance is needed espc with cptsd and trauma and stuff like this cus u get brainwashed by these toxic ppl and moments and then u start thinking ur the lowest being on earth, pls love like a human. Reassurance, atp its like encouragement is what i mean. I wish ppl werent that icky abt it cus it helps, and it has helped me, comfort aswell, communtiy, heck be a human. Show ppl love and care. Be a good neighbor, be a good citizen, be a good person, be a good anybody. Alright, i need to go now becus its very late but i had some thoughts i needed to share and get off my chest. 🍀

@berrycheesecake90 Ive actually, some of the stuff ive learned from that one person i metioned ( shes @ reclaimingmelissa on instantgrams and other platforms) ive repeadetly used some of the techniques and skills to the point where they come naturally to me so change is possible and it has helped me alot, i think its whats helping me keep going, and the understanding that all thats happening to me IS a protective response. yk? Its like weight lifting but for ur nervous system, i built that

I agree with you, toxic positivity doesn't help when you just need to feel what you do.

And you are going through a difficult time.

It can feel superior.

Judgemental.

Misplaced.

I do think however there needs to be a balance because sometimes people ask for help and support but get into a negative spiral that also serves no purpose 💙

Im not so sure exactly what you meant on the last line, yes balance, and you can add balance and self-support thru co-regulation or support thru others aswell, you can do both. Im not sure if you are speaking abt someone whos becoming very dependant , if someone keeps reaching out for help i think somethings missing, if so i know some reasons possibly if that were to happen, maybe theyre afraid of whats happening internally within them and avoiding the feeling; maybe their enviorment is unsafe, maybe theyre afraid of being alone with it. It happens, however u can slowly build some self-support. Ofc they should not all together abandon getting help. Sometimes ppl can be brought up in families that make them very dependant on others, lots of times if u never have rlly had a relationship with urself built, u can seem to wait for others for alot of stuff, which is natural however i do think at the end of the day ppl want that balance of independence and community. Now theres also when someone is fresh out of a hectic enviorment, they will need alot of support and reassurance and guidance. Think of it as a injury, its not permanent and temporary but however long ur body needs to heal it needs to be protected, checked up on, supported and helped. The same way i view that trauma, in the begining however long it takes , you will need alot more than perhaps the average person and u need ppl who can provide that. Some of these abusive situations do odd stuff to ppl who survive them or are still surviving them. And balance in self-support and socail-support is importance, but u need a guide like a consulor, or therapist, or someome but most commonly i think consulors/therapists that can show u a reference to safety with urself and others. Cus it doesnt come out of the blue. And the consulor/therapist can help verify some info too if ur confused, like if for example ur anxious abt self-validating feelings becus u fear it means ur ignoring other ppls feelings, they can verify and say thats not true and u are acknowledging how u feel becus ur feelings matter, are there for a reason and u need to first process ur feelings before someones. Theres diff levels but what i was saying in my message is i dislike how ppl use this mask of ‘self-help’ as a way to dismiss someone who needs help. Like someones rlly struggling and theyre lost and need a guide or need the most basic human need, emotional support/co-regulation and the person dismisses them by tone, un-solstice advice or judgemental dismissive language. Yk? Or like how they expect someone to deal with their own issues who clearly needs help and support from someone. You dont learn to math by urself, u get taught that then u do it with urself. Even then u still ocassionally need help.

Ofc if the person is trying to harm someone or you, definitly leave the situation asap and defend, but i dont think thats what this is abt, yes have boundaries with the person, infact i think those boundaries can help with better support, however aslong as its not harsh boundaries , gentle boundaries and i can give a example of what i mean if needed

It’s crazy how trauma affects the way we see life and our surroundings. Even though the happenings and abuse happened long ago it’s still lingers into our system and it is awful we had to go thru that and our abusers weren’t held accountable for what they did. Like it’s not our fault but it’s our responsibility to heal. We can slowly accept these things and talk to someone we trust, who won’t judge us or criticize us because it’s not helpful in our part. We can also consult a therapist but it’s gonna cost us. Depending on your budget but we can also do things that make us happy and help ourselves out of the trauma that those people caused us. We can pick up stuff that keeps us alive, happy, reconnect with nature and see the beauty of living. It’s gonna be hard but it will be worth it. Toxic positivity also sucks. No one should be obligated to be/ feel positive in awful situations. You can feel your feelings and so what if they’re negative? We are human and we are intricate beings. We are a combination of good and bad and overall mix beings. We are built up by a lot of experiences our upbringings and backgrounds our childhoods and no one gets to decide what is good or what is bad for us. No one gets to dictate the life we live because they are NOT in our position. We have to rebuild ourselves. We can journal, we can sing, we can do whatever makes us feel free because after all, it’s our life. Trauma really does make us question the things that we have experienced. These things have shaped our perception and no one understands the pain we go through. We still deserve healing and we deserve to be treated kindly. Stuff like these are not easy, we are our own humane selves and we are not perfect. There’s no one size fits all to what works for someone and what works for others. Connecting with people here also helps a lot. As this app was made for helping people in their mental health. We need to surround ourselves with people who are good for us. And coping mechanisms made to protect ourselves can be our source of defense mechanism. You are worthy and you are definitely making a difference. You matter.

@deemich thank you !💖 🫂 i would say healing is more of a necessity not rlly like u owe someone healing, but its more of just recovery. same way u get hurt by a illness, u need time to heal. I just want that light to guide me cus its been hard
