Still experiencing bullying and workplace abuse

There are days when it seems like my actual job title should be "It's alright to abuse this person, they have a disability and no one will believe them."

Honestly, I work for a mental health organization and when I talk to leadership I can't help but wonder what happened to them. It's a vicious circle, they are ashamed, they think of a way to build a narrative around their actions, then do something twice as bad because every time they see me, they remember how awful they are.

It's so disheartening when people don't listen and tell a narrative to suit themselves.

No wonder people struggle to trust 💛

I'm so sorry that you are still going through this!

💛 I was in a conversation with someone who practiced as an LMSW today who is now leading an organization where many people with disabilities work, and she's new to her role. I walked away thinking, it must truly be awful to know that as a social worker, she behaved the way she did. For a moment in the conversation she seemed to have insight into how clear that was to me. She had paused, and I asked her how she was feeling. She stuttered and said she didn't understand the question. I told her that I was trying to connect with her because connection is the foundation of the work we do. And then I asked her how she felt again.

She stuttered for a moment before resuming the cruelty. But I have to think that if there's still a social worker in there somewhere, she has to have some experience with realizing she said she didn't understand what the question 'how do you feel?" meant.
