Too Emotional (Crying)

I'm way too emotional over stuff. I cried from Finding Dory to seeing people helping each other. Sad/emotional music. Especially with dogs and family. It get really annoying because at one point I'm watching funny videos then a video of a dog with 2 legs teaching a 2 legged puppy to walk and I pause. Then cry. Or when I'm trying to give a point, speak seriously I tear up. My dad hates it. And my younger sister sees me as baby. A part of me likes how emotional I am. But atp I'm sensitive to stuff and I try to toughen up. I remember telling this one situationship that I don't think crying is bad and I enjoy it and he though it was a sign of weakness. My friends understand it, but I feel like I on the far end.

I've tried toughened up and *** up. I just feel silly and repressed. Idk what to do, if Im going somewhere or busy my face is red and my eyes are watery. It's annoying.

@Mino1522 I hear you, it sounds like your emotions are a lot to handle sometimes but it’s clear that you’re really in touch with how you feel. Being emotional isn’t a weakness, it’s just part of who you are and there's nothing wrong with that. I get that it feels frustrating when people don’t understand or think you’re being too sensitive but remember, your emotions are valid.

@Mino1522 I'm so glad to hear that! Remember, you're enough and don't be too hard on yourself!

Try doing a search for "high sensitive people HSP" and you'll find a wealth of information written by and for people just like you. There's absolutely nothing "wrong" with you, it sounds like you happen to be in the 10% or so of humanity that qualifies as highly sensitive.

Beautiful music, a cute puppy, loud noises, a happy moment, etc = moves you to tears.

Seriously, look up "highly sensitive people" and you won't feel so alone! :)

I looked into it! There's some helpful info. I didn't know it was an actual thing. Thanks!

@Mino1522

You're welcome. If you identify with any of the HSP characteristics it's really helpful to know that you are definitely not alone and there's nothing wrong with you, you're just sensitive, and honestly I think the world needs more sensitive people :)

@Mino1522 I get where you are coming from, but I'm the opposite, I find it hard to express my emotions, it's great that you don't bottle things up and can be so open, that's a strength but i get why you don't want puffy eyes and a red nose all the time. I guess it's about learning a way to navigate them, so they are apart of you but they don't overwhelm you. I wish you the best with everything 😊

Thanks for sharing and the kind words. I do wonder what it's like on the other end of it, maybe it's easier or not.

Hey Mino,

so sorry to hear that you are experiencing difficulties! I always wonder 'what is too much and who gets to say so'? If you are any way like me when you are trying to suppress an emotion it will only try to come out stronger. It sounds like other people are critisizing your show of emotions or your emotion in itself, and that might cause you to feel like you are not allowed to feel these things. But the emotion is there, its real, its true. And its allowed to be there! In a world that we live in sometimes it can be nice if we can just show those emotions to those that deserve it, or hold back with people who cant handle it, but if you chose to do so and to work on that part make sure it is because YOU want to for YOU! If someone has a problem with your show of emotion and you dont ask something of them (you are not asking fot their act of comfort or whatever) and they feel the need to comment on your tears then maybe in a calmer time you could ask them what is so scary to them about it and that it seems to be THEIR problem and if they dont want to see your tears they can simply walk away. You are you, your emotions are a part of that, you feeling deeply and strongly is a part of who you are. If you feel it holds you back from certain things (like public speaking?) then practice and work on those things that will help you further and surround yourself with people who accept you for who you are fully! Good luck and kind thoughts

That is so kind. I will def will be practicing and working on handling my emotions. It's true on the fact that bottling it up just makes it come out stronger. I just wish it was easier ð¥², but it's something to grow from I suppose.

Some progress since this post!

I've learned to distribute my feelings towards something else. I always love music so that, but also went back to drawing. Also breathing and handling outbursts too. I haven't progressed THAT far, but I'm on a path :)

@Mino1522

That's great if you can find your own personalized toolbox full of helpful coping strategies. (and don't forget to always carry some extra tissues with you ;)  )

Me too, I’m the same. But on the brighter side, remember you always get a clear skin from the crying! Hahah just kidding I don’t recommend…
