Wholesome Squirrel News
Because of bad snows I haven't been able to feed my outdoor "pet" squirrel in 5 days, when I finally went out it ran right up to me like "Save me!" and climbed right up my leg for the first time ever! I hand fed him a triple nut (3 peanuts in one shell) to him (Him? Her?) busy, then set out a whole Frisbee full of peanuts and let it have its own special dinning party.I think it wants me to bring it indoors, I want to, but idk.

@genericbeing
aww how cute!
Oh man, I worry about the squirrels in snow and ice, too. (And the birds and crows... I'm a mess.) Squirrels are really not suited to inside, though.. and if they live in a climate, they are able to endure. It's almost certainly not alone (even if it's more trusting of humans than its friends) so he probably curls up in a warm tree hole or nest with its family during the worst. I'm sure he was excited to see you and make sure you were OK, as well as get a snack. ❤️
Something I feel good about is how fat my squirrel friends are right now. I mean, not unhealthy! But they have enjoyed many peanut gifts daily and they are well equipped to get through winter.
Oh and if you are worried it doesn't have shelter, you can put one nearby. I've never done that because they generally do well finding their own, but it might be a little something.
I just realized that's a ten day old post. How are things?

❤️❤️❤️
I just saw this! So cute!
How did you get the squirrel to let you pet him??
I feed the squirrels in my neck of the woods too but they don't let me get too close
@1BraveBunny I think its just that one squirrel who is unique. I feed all my local squirrels but only that one comes up to me and climbs on me. It also takes peanuts I hand feed it. Its totally unafraid of me, it will even stay when the other squirrels run away from me.
Awwww that's so cool!
Thanks for posting!
How cute and tender!
You might bring them indoors:

@HealingTalk I will consider it, I'm just concerned it might chew my things in the house.
Yes, you're right. I had a rabbit as pet, and he liked to chew electrical cables all around the house.
Wild rabbits eat grass and roots, so those cables seemed like food to him.
I don't think that squirrels would do the same, but they might chew things that resemble nuts or seeds to them.
In any case, I wish you that you deepen and enjoy much your friendship with your squirrel buddy, inside or outside the house!

Random question - with a sad story behind it. Do you live in New York State, and is this squirrel missing any of its tail?
@AlliopeCalliope Why do you ask?
It's a very sad/infuriating story but if you look up Peanut the squirrel that's why... I had this random thought maybe they lied and just released him, but that seems unlikely.
I searched and saw your first post was in June. The Peanut incident happened in fall 2024 so definitely not him.
@AlliopeCalliope Well thanks for trying to help out, I'm not in NY anyway, I can't say where because the website here says not to say where you live, but I appreciate the help. I think maybe it was just some random squirrel someone local raised up, that's my theory, either that or my squirrel just has a connection with me.
@genericbeing This is so cool! 😊
@genericbeing do it
