Work stress (Vent)

Won’t say where specifically, but I work in dog boarding, and Thanksgiving week has been absolutely terrible. Even after tonight, we still have over 100 dogs boarded at our facility right now. (Not an exaggeration, it is over 100.) With the amount of check-ins and checkouts happening everyday, the amount of meals we have to put together, all the walks that have to be done, the cleaning, the laundry, the dishes, the amount of dogs needing attention from a vet due to obvious stress, and coworkers of mine even needing to go home early due to feeling faint themselves, I genuinely feel like I do not have the ability to take care of myself anymore- all I can think about is work and what else is going to go wrong before I come in with each new day. I can’t even comfortably take a lunch break while at work. I don’t know how I’m going to get through the week. We have so many dogs checking out tomorrow, I have no idea how we’re going to manage it. I have nobody in my life right now to talk to about this either. Only my therapist tomorrow. I’m losing it.

I hear you. You seem to be going through a rough time relating to your work life which is spilling over to daily life and emotional well being. I hope you find the support you need.

Also, kudos to you for taking care of the pets - they are very integral parts of their families and I am sure you don't hear this enough: You are doing caretaking at a massive scale - and impacting many many lives in the process. Thank you for the heart of gold that you have. ❤️

Take care

A lot better than I thought it would! It was extremely stressful, there were plenty of rude people when checking in and out or answering phone calls, and incident after incident that’d come up with our dogs, and I made a ton of mistakes (It was my first year working Thanksgiving week in a lead position since I was promoted earlier this year,) and I broke down at work multiple times, but I didn’t die, so I consider that a win!

I’ve been given three days off in a row, I’m now on the second day of that, and I already feel much better. I slept all day yesterday since I got little to no sleep every night the entire week, and now I’m trying to get back into eating right (I went entire days going between binging or not eating at all from stress back and forth like crazy), actually drinking some water, and taking care of my hygiene again since I admittedly also skipped that the entire week.

I’m just so relieved it’s over, even knowing how close Christmas is and that it’s going to be even worse. I’m just enjoying my time off while I still can now. (My therapist admittedly helped the most with my mood change and being able to move on from that absolute nightmare!) 😄
