how do you convince someone to get checked for something they do not see in themselves
the last few months have been extremely hard but i am seeing things that concern .
my spouse once able to navigate anywhere before GPS lol now has trouble in familiar areas
cannot seem to follow conversations well and cannot remember a show or movie we watched a week ago says things like this is vaguely familiar.
today spent 10 minutes trying to get the right parking spot at a grocery store honestly think he did not want to walk is gaining weight but pretends not to eat around me ........ then after saving steps outside walked up and down aisles we did not need to go down ....... put odd random things in cart but i had to tell him no not on his medically low salt ordered diet ........... we leave and he walks out and is lost .........has no idea where he parked.......... i said up this row half way .........he was mad said "i was wrong"...... i said ok i walked to car ..........as he wandered up and down the called my phone said found it ......... i yelled at him standing right here if you cannot recognize me standing next to your car YOU should NOT drive
a month ago i suggested a restaurant he said he had tried and hated it .......so i never asked again .......two days ago out with friend he went said "this was great i have NEVER eaten here" ............ do not know what is the lie anymore he NEVER ate there ..............or tried it and hated it line ............just because i wanted to go.
he is not that old ........he is working and drives in a very busy city everyday and i am terrified he is losing his mind ........ he may be a risk to others he pretend he cannot hear me have to repeat myself 4 times but mutter under my breath 50 yards away he hears it ?
how do you suggest a person is checked for dementia?

Hello, this is indeed concerning and you are right to feel as worried as you describe. Watching one's spouse or partner in decline is truly frightening, and I have been in your position. Since we can't give advice here, and I can only glean information from what you are saying here, I would recommend doing what I did, which was to bring my partner to an emergency room/urgent care department in my city and they did some memory tests and quizzes and determine there was something affecting him organically (i.e., it wasn't dementia or memory, but his kidneys were not working and creating a metabolic overload that was impairing his functioning in many ways). I am not saying this is what is going on with your spouse but there may be an organic (bodily, physical) issue that is creating this confusion. Also, I know he may resist seeking help (guys are like that, I know!) and you may have limited resources to get him checked. Does he have any relative or friend who would be more likely to convince him? Some kind of leverage could be brought in to get him to agree to rule out some physical issues.
I hope you can get some professional opinions. Do check back in and let us know how you are doing!

He has NO one else has burned every bridge he has ever crossed..... he had a serious medical thing about a year and couple months ago which involved major fluid retention and so as with every idiotic idea he just cut fluids i believe it is partial dehydration as that can cause confusion i brought it up to him told him how i was done chasing after him like a toddler and if he fails he fails .... he slowly started to hydrate more and although not fixed is better ........
he has insurance .... he has access but he chooses not to use them so i NO longer care
@toughTiger6481
it sounds like you recognize that you have reached your limit with him, then.
i no longer believe it is dementia or even a health condition he just feels the need to aggravate me.
i keep telling him we are NOT happy we should separate because we just get under each others skin
playing he does not know something or cannot remember he thinks i will feel sympathy and stay with him ..... he chooses his actions / he chooses to play games this included ...
