How to keep going
I just finished a month-long daily art challenge and I'm kind of crushed that no one seems to care at all. Like even assuming my art is not worth anything you'd think they'd give me credit for actually sticking to it every day for a month.
People keep telling me (in nicer words) that I should just quit if I'm not enjoying it or it's my fault for wanting people to notice the things I spend hours on or caring what other people think (because normally people are completely immune to that?)
I see positivity posts saying "Your art isn't bad, you're just a beginner" but I'm not a beginner at all. So it is just bad.
People say I should devote this distress toward actually improving, but I find I cannot improve (at anything) *on purpose*. If I'm already doing *well enough* I will keep doing it long enough to actually improve, but if I'm focused on how I'm *not* good enough I can't keep it up for the *years and years* it takes to become good at all. Unfortunately it's impossible to ignore all the evidence that I'm not good. I think Internet 2.0 doesn't help because back in the day (I told you I'm not a "beginner") I made my own website and it didn't matter that no one looked at it because it wasn't interactive anyway, but now social media amplifies the popular stuff and you don't really have an idea of how much unpopular stuff is out there because you don't see it. You do, however, see people complain about getting only 40 notes on that piece which means everyone hated it, when you are lucky to get 2 yourself.
Nobody cares because you don't have any talents good enough to make your existence worth anything to anyone. Good job.
@meerkat47 Wow, that's really mean. Why would you say something like that to someone? Would you say that to their face?
(Even if you are saying it to yourself.) :)
Nobody reads this forum, but I cannot delete things.
I read it. I get it
Maybe I'm a little late here, I don't know. I'm not sure how this works exactly.
But I can tell you this, I'm an artist. I have been for a long time in different phases and maginutes, different mediums. I've been around the world of art. You can't do art to please other people, you have to do it to please yourself and then you have to show other people and tell them that this is what you do, this is why you do it, this is why you love it. So much of art is giving yourself over to the medium and giving it your all, it's taxing, it's exhaustive. It feels like nobody cares and you're shouting into the void, you hate everything you do. But, you love what you're doing. I get it, I hear you. I wish I could tell you how to fix it, because I struggle with it everday. But I just wanted you to know that some hears you and understands.
@dapperHuman1199 But if I don't love it, I should just quit, right?
Sorry to be argumentative. I do appreciate your reply.
I could probably try harder to quit than I have. But I don't want to.
But I can't say that I love anything about it. Maybe finishing something and thinking it looks good, at least for me, but then I get to see how much nobody cares whatsoever. And they shouldn't because there are thousands of much better things out there on the same theme.
Every time I try to talk about it on 7 cups or in real life in the end I just get told I should quit.
