Indecision
I've been conflicted over deciding what to do about something for 3 weeks now. I've tried to journal about it, to sit and 'listen' to my gut, I've mentioned it to friends in hope of help or clearer perspective (although I know that can add to the confusion.. And yet here I am), I just picked one option and promised myself to commit to it but i couldnt let the other option go either and am trying to do both. And I've taken space from it all to hopefully gain some clarity. But I'm still stuck, it's kept me up all night, again, trying to figure it out. I can't stop thinking about it and yet I still don't know what to do....
It sounds like something really challenging to go through... Maybe you can try a "reverse" approach: instead of trying to figure out what the best option is, you can focus on what is holding you back. In other words, instead of the options themselves, you can reflect on the process of choosing. Some questions that you might ask yourself are:
- what are the reasons why is it so hard for me to make this decision? Could it be that there's something subconscious, like a fear or a secret wish that I've been hiding even to myself, and the fact that I've been trying to ignore it is making it all so difficult?
- Could it be that I already know the pros and cons of both, but I'm just too afraid to let go of the positive aspects of one choice, even if I know the other option offers more?
- Do I have any other insecurity in my life right now that is affecting my ability to make decision, and if so what is it, and how can I work on it?
There are sure many other things you could consider, but maybe the key is to change mindset and to focus less on what you should do, and more on how your decision making process works, in order to find out what is getting you stuck. It may take longer, but if it can help you making a choice serenely and respecting it, it's worth it!
