Navigating isolation after unexpected recovery
Hey there!
I've been feeling a bit isolated in my experience and felt the need to share.
About a month ago I had a light bulb moment that put my world in perspective and snapped me out of a lifelong depression (36m). It was instant, profound, and somewhat confusing.
Recently I've felt the need to share my story, but I'm not sure what I'm expecting to gain from that. I think my journey is almost entirely unrelatable, and I have trouble believing it myself at times.
I went through some truly dark times. I lost all hope. My thinking became so distorted I lost trust in my best friend. I'm kind of terrified of returning to that state, for I really feel the magic of life now.
It would be nice to connect with others who feel they're on the other side of depression, but really I just want to share my happiness with others. Maybe serve as a source of hope for others who are struggling. And maybe even feel less alone and more understood in this fresh start of mine.
Hence the "Managing Emotions" topic. I'm happy, but alone! It's conflicting. I think I want genuine human connection, but I may not be able to relate to others with my experience. Perhaps I should leave the past alone and just appreciate whatever is happening.
@cyanessence oh success storys are always so nice to hear💖 I'm glad you finally found the light 💖 and yes your story will definitely give hope to others💖 what was the realisation you came to?? What exactly was the thought you suddenly came to?? I like to think half the time I do well controlling the depression demon, but then some times it hits hard. Being thankful, enjoying the small things and swing the beauty that surrounds us, that's what helps me through💖
@Tinywhisper11 thanks for your warm reply!
I think I will continue to reflect on my journey and share what insights I discover, as it may just provide the help and hope that someone needs.
I always felt different. School was hard, confusing and loud. Thoughts were scattered and strange, and emotions were never consistent. I tried my absolute hardest to appear normal so I was largely overlooked.
I learned a little about ADHD last year, but it wasn't until last month when I really looked into it that it resonated with me deeply. It described me pretty perfectly. And what a rush it was to finally relate to people! I cried with happiness. I'm not religious, am agnostic, but it felt like a miracle. I felt I could finally start fighting the right battle. I immediately learned a bunch of techniques to cope, and am undergoing an assessment. They openly told me they're pretty sure I have inattentive ADHD.
Without depression, I can see just how much of a demon it is. It's really unkind, yet it feels so real. Like you can see the truth of how bad things are where others are just blind.
I feel a strong need to help others, but I know what it's like to hear words of positivity and encouragement when you believe everything is genuinely hopeless. It's almost an insult to one's intelligence. So I'm just doing little things where I can until I can maybe figure something else out.
@cyanessence I'm so glad you finally found your place, the right help and support 💖💖 yeah I understand that being told positive things when your at your lowest, is just not what you need to hear, but for others those positive messages are life safers💖 I can't wait to hear more from you 💖 and thank you for boosting my hope levels💖💖

I'm committed to staying well. Happiness after deep depression is truly astounding! I will do my best to help others where I can, but I know what a monster depression can be. I don't think it will be at all easy to make a real difference, but I really want to try, even if that's just serving as inspiration for others. Time means things change, and that gives me endless hope.
@cyanessence You really are making a difference 💜🥰 thank you 😊
