Hello everyone, I hope everyone is having a good week.

In the last week, we discussed- How has your culture or upbringing influenced your approach to emotion regulation? If you haven't checked yet, please click here to add your thoughts.

Based on the discussion there, I realized that emotion regulation is something that is not openly discussed or learned due to various factors in play. But as a consequence of it, we experience a harder time regulating our emotions because we have no clue how to channel them. So, I want to extend this week's discussion towards it a bit more.

This week's prompt is: What are some of the emotions that you find most difficult to regulate? Why do you think that is?

While there are many factors in play that how emotions are expressed and managed, it is important to find a balance that works for us individually. Please remember, it is okay to feel and express our emotions, and seeking support when we need it is a sign of strength. Let's discuss together and learn from each other.

For me this would be fear and anxiety. They typically show up together. From a very young age I was wired to believe that expressing my negative emotions was a sign of weakness. I know that this idea is false but it is convincing and in the heat of the moment, my brain will typically believe it. This platform is helping me break down those false beliefs.

@transurvivor That must have been very difficult to grow up believing you needed to hide your negative emotions. Expressing how we truly feel is a strength. How have you found this platform helpful in breaking down those beliefs so far?

@ASilentObserver

Sorrow and Anger make up about 90% of my emotion. The reason they are so hard to regulate is that they are extremely strong emotions. Even with a daily does of 1200 mg of medicine meant to stabilize me it is still difficult to stop it before it gets started.

Anger and hurt. I can function, even joke around, but underneath, if I have been angered, it creeps back up to where I can explode. Not indiscriminately explode but definitely take down who angered me.

@toughWater1672 I know how it feels I struggle with rejection dysphoria sometimes confusing criticism or people just having a bad day as rejection. it's easy to say you can't please everyone so focus on yourself it's another to actually put it into practice.

@toughWater1672 That sounds immensely difficult to carry such a heavy feeling of needing to please others to feel worthy. How does living with this burden impact your daily life? You are not alone in wanting connection and caring for others.

When I'm hurt I cannot shake it. It turns to self loathing and I'm just bogged down with it for weeks. It gets so bad I actually begin to think what was said to me or done to me was deserved.

Probably not as much of an emotion as emotion regulation has been going well for now.

When I feel wronged by someone and feel that I cannot get back at that person in some way, say verbal, the frustration and helplessness related to that. That sort of emotion is hardest to deal with. To come out not on top of a situation is very frustrating for me.
