I've just been having a rather rough day because I have been trying for months to unclutter my apartment but each time I've tried to get organized I get so overwhelmed and frustrated and then I just can't concentrate on what needs to be done. I have attempted making lists but those become useless if I'm already past frustrated. :(

Then I have this huge problem with forgetting things. its become rather embarrassing. Like, just the other day I actually tried to order at mcdonalds and then when I got upto the drive through window I had to tell them to cancel my order because I forgot that I didnthave money with me! Ughh. And then I'm working on this summer project and I keep forgetting to bring important things with me.I'm just waiting for the day when my forgetfulness would actually cause some really seriousproblem for me or someone else...

basically I would like to know, if anyone wants to help:how can imotivate myselfto unclutter myhome space? How can I keep myself from making it cluttered again? What are some good organization tips? And finally, is there something that can help with memory problems?

Hi M, Thank you for posting here on 7cupsoftea. I am sorry that you are experiencing such difficulties and I am very happy that you are reaching out to get some advice and help. I do sense a lot of frustration from your post and I think it is a very normal reaction to such a situation as it is not a good feeling to keep forgetting things and not being able to organise the living space. Many people that isforgetful has a lot of things on their mind all the time that preventing them from remembering things and makes them distracted and unfocused. Could this maybe be the case with you at the moment? Are you experiencing stress in other areas of your life etc?

Sometimesour living space can represent our inner mental and emotional world and Im just wondering if your mind seems cluttered or if you feel stressedinside ?

This is only a few suggestions, its always good to look inside first and chek how you are feeling and experiencing at this stage of your life. Many people of all ages arevery messy and keep an untidy flat and you seem to be a bit hard on yourself. One advice wouldbe to set up a list and just doone area at a time each day and not try to do the entire flat at the same time. In my experience it is good to put things back in its place after you taken it out .. if you make this a habbit ( and yes I know its not easy ) I think it will not be so untidy etc. Anyway , benice to yourself and not put too much pressure on yourself. :-)

Please feel free to contact me at any time if you need someone to talk to . Have a nice day!

H! Thanks for taking the time to respond And for your advice! Not sure if you will read this because it has been a while, but I wanted to answer your questions. I do feel like the messiness of my apartment reflects my scattered, unfocused state of mind to an extent. But it has been hard forme to break out of my current scattered state of mind and clean up a it (both mentlly and literally).

School stress might definitey be a part of it. And what's worse is that when I look at the clutter, it just makes me more stressed! Unfortunately I have tried countless times to make lists of things I need to accomplish but I can't seem to follow through with most.

Maybe what I really need to do is slowdown my thinking. Having a scattered brain can cause a lot of inconvenient things to happen that could have Been avoidable had I slowed down (for instance last week I accidentally locked my keys in my car and tried to buy things at the store without realizing I didn't have my money with me, which I had done three other times before). Sometimes it takes me longer to do certain things because I would go to a place and have to backtrack because I did not form any kind of route or way to axcomplish errends. I know that doesn't sound like a big deal, but it can get exhausting! Trying to keep your mind from going in several different directions.

Lots of people mention meditation for this knd of problem, but would that really help in the end?

Thank you UltimateReality83 I have memory problems as well and it does describe my brain full of stuff that is always going around in my head from work stuff, therapy stuff, kid stuff, wife stuff all kinds of stuff and for the last couple weeks I have been doing my job and filling in for somebody else and they won't be back until the begining of July so work stuff in my head is doubled with doing both jobs.

HiHoldenmounty, Sorry I have not seen your post before now. Thank you so much for your reply ! Yes it can be very difficult when so much stuff is going on inside your mind but it seem like you are doing a fantasticjob juggling all the things that you are doing , both at home and on the workplace. It seem like it isa lot of responsibility and pressure to be under and it is important I think to have some time for yourself.

Actually, I know about a methodthat has been proven to be useful for worrying and stress. That is to have a time on the day were you sit down and think about all the things you are worried about or stressing with .. give it about 20 -30 min .. and outside this time period you try not to worry at all .. if you do...tell yourselff you can worry about it during the worry time that you have had planed. Many people find it that after a little time they stop worrying so much and that they dont need the worrytime. Also I think its important to try to bring yourself into the present moment .. I mean when you have so much stuff in your head you always thinking about thepast or future ... you are not actually in the moment ... that kills the joy .. so yes try to focus on the present moment :-) Their are lots of meditation tips etc online .. that is very helpful :-) Take care !
