Co Dependent
Anyone here familiar with co dependency? Not on drugs or alcohol. Towards other people. I am so dependent on other people for my happiness. I'm 42 years old married with a 22 year old daughter. What's wrong with me? I should know better!
I don't think you can help your emotions. If you're going through a rough time and are vulnerable, it's perfectly normal to need things you normally wouldn't. Some people may need to distance themselves, and other might find themselves relying on others more. I don't think that's anything to be ashamed about.
Dependenciescreate fear, possessiveness and jealousy. Fear comes because we are afraid of what will happen to us if the other person is not there. It is an outcome of not understanding what it means to be alone. This is a common problem across the world.
CoDependent is when you have a person who has a severe problem, and the codependent takes on those problems as part of their identity as a "rescuer".
I think what you describe is over dependence on others, and believe me, it can be helped but it takes time. It is like reprogramming a computer to do something new after a very long time. Small steps, build interests that you can have fun alone and know that you will have setbacks.
Depending on others is actually well ingrained into humans for a reason!!! It has helped our survival as a species. It is only a problem when we are forced to be alone for long periods, and we panic. Remember to breathe in and out, and don't panic when you're alone.
You are SOOO on the right track!!!! Hugs![]()
i didn't know about this till recently, but there's an AA-styled group for co-dependency,Co-Dependenents Anonymous.
here's their website ?https://coda.org? maybe you could find some of their info useful or a meeting happening in your area.
