Does anyone know about PMDD or suffer from it?

Im 19 years old and Pmddbasically controls my entire life. My mother had it and i think my grandmother and great grandmother probablyhad pms. But none of them have it as bad as me, sometimes I think no one in the world has it as bad as me.

The problem is there isnt really any way to fix it. You can take birth control or depression pills but both make me crazy too, in different ways. And both methods only eliminate half the symptoms, and usually give me other symptoms. When I heargirls complain about their period I just sitquiet because none of them have any idea what itfeelslike to have pmdd.

I have a boyfriend, and after much explaining he actually understands it. He sees what I go through every single day. Its always a struggle. In a perfect world when I am not stressed, I only get crazy for about two weeks. But most of the time it feels like I never get a break from it. I use to work as a cashier in the mall and my till would always be short when it was around that time before my period. I still take birth control and i can see a huge difference. I cant say it didnt help a lot because it did, but when stress comes along, I still go nuts. I could rave forever about how pmddhas destroyed so much of me. The worst part is, I cant help any of it. I know things could be so much worse, I know when its my pmdd controling me but i cant stop it. its so hard to describe all of it because i keep thinking no one will ever be able to feel the way i do. The only people who really see it unfold are my mom and my boyfriend and sadly they are the ones who i end up hurting the most. Im sick of hurting the ones i love and myself. Im sick of feeling this way when i know i wouldnt feel any of this if i didnt have pmdd. half the time i dont even know who i am anymore.
My relationship is suffering from this and so am I. I know there are support groups but most are very far away from my location and i just keep thinking no one will be my age.

You are not alone. I'm 39 and have had PMDD I'm pretty sure since I hit puberty at age 12. I wasn't diagnosed till my mid-20's. I just thought I was a horrible bitch, and some of the time I could successfully hide it. Come to find out, it's the opposite...

I find this particular blog post very helpful. I go back and re-read it on occasion. I hope it's helpful to you as well.

Also, I read a really helpful book a while back called The PMDD Phenomenon.

I think it's possible that women with PMDD might also be highly sensitive (HSP), since HSPs are about 15-20% of the population. I have no evidence to back that up, it's just a hunch.

And there's another PMDD conversation thread in the Members Classified area.

My wife has PMDD at the age of 26. We've been struggling to get her help because everyone tells her she's blowing it out of proportion or that it's just woman's problems and she needs to suck it up. She used to black out in pain and her manager at her last job would schedule her work around the week of her period so she had less hours that week. It really is debilitating and it's unfortunate you have to suffer.
