Maladaptive Daydreaming - Enjoying negative emotions?
Hiya, I've been researching maladaptive daydreaming for awhile now, as it's something I intend to create my university project around. I'm an avid daydreamer myself and I've always found that I enjoy making my daydream characters experience both positive and negative emotions, to the extent that I can make myself cry as if I were watching a movie when something bad happens in my day dream.
I haven't found that much literature on this aspect of MD and I was wondering if anyone else does/experiences this and would be willing to talk to me about it?
Thanks!
Hi. I'm really interested in this topic because I believe this is the term for something I have done my whole life. I am totally willing to talk about it.
@Faybel hi, I dont know if you still want to know more about this but I have nothing better to do. Maladaptive daydreaming is when a person daydreams in a way that causes it to interfere with normal life. This can be in many different ways whether the person daydreams too much, they can't control when it happens ect. Someone who has this however can always completely tell the difference between fantasy and reality. I personally daydream about books, films and TV shows that I like at the time and in all of my daydreams I am a stronger better version of me. I have been known to not hear things because I am daydreaming and I once was in a daydream for four hours solid but I often come in and out of my daydreams. The one thing that I find the biggest problem is that maladaptive daydreaming is not an official disorder and there is no concrete method of dealing with it. Some mentalk health professionals don't even know what it is and this makes it continuously hard to get any help for it.
