Each year, over 44,000 people die by suicide in the United States alone.

For every one person who dies by suicide, 25 people attempt.

The World Health Organization estimates that over 800,000 people die by suicide each year worldwide.

September is Suicide Prevention Awareness Month. Together, we can open up the conversation about mental health and suicide

We want to know about your Reasons to Stay. By sharing your reasons, maybe others will be inspired to find their reason to stay too.

my reasons to stay are of course my friends, my family and myself - i would not want to let myself down like that and give everything up because it always gets better. and also..

there are so many fruits i havent tasted, so many beautiful songs i have not discovered.

intriguing conversations i havent had and places i have never seen.

and so many books i havent read and lovely souls i havent met yet.

and i would never ever want to miss that out.

I think I stood in the rain so long, it would be a shame to not get my rainbow. I'm not gonna leave till life balances out the hurt with peace. Life might not owe me anything, but karma has piled up, and I should be getting something good for all this suffering. I hope at least, or else, me waiting just did more harm. The rain sure is cold.

I like the metaphor you use and the way you put this. Interesting thought. I'll add that to my reasons of why I should stick around too. :)

Life should be amazing if the trauma we go through equates to the happiness and peace and love we might later find. Great thought. Thank you for sharing.

To see what the future holds and enjoy random adventures that seem to happen when we least expect them. Also, to watch and grow with my friends, family and boyfriend

@Kate I am curious of what I still have to experience.

@Kate

I think cosmically killing oneself creates an undellible stain on the soul. However, my views are changing. I think our society should embrace assisted suicide when life has become so unbearable with little to no help available. I was hoping by subscribing to the work stress path that it would offer something useful, but so far I have only learned that I have extremely high stress relief and none of the options to relieve the stress (except the one featured in this thread) are available. Rather than continue to ask people to suffer or to suggest unrealistic things like magically make money appear to go get mental health help (in as much of a joke that is), we should set rules and embrace suicide for people who are not/cannot get help. It's more humane than asking someone to endure overwhelming pain day in and day out.

My reason to stay is simple, I have to go on to help others learn how to go on. I also, never want to disappoint myself like that.

; My reason to stay is my Loving Family and Friends but most of all...

I have a purpose, I am here for a reason.
My presence in this world is significant, I matter not only to others who are close to me but for myself too and I will do the best effort to make this world a better place with a helping hand to offer and a wide smile on my face.
