Each year, over 44,000 people die by suicide in the United States alone.

For every one person who dies by suicide, 25 people attempt.

The World Health Organization estimates that over 800,000 people die by suicide each year worldwide.

September is Suicide Prevention Awareness Month. Together, we can open up the conversation about mental health and suicide

We want to know about your Reasons to Stay. By sharing your reasons, maybe others will be inspired to find their reason to stay too.

No reason, just cowardice for not doing it...I am just waiting for it to end by its own...

@Kate My reason to stay is that I want to experience fully how life really is, every experience good and bad, everything, I feel like quitting sometimes, but I don't really have the courage to do so

too many things to experience, to see and explore..too many people to meet and learn from...family, friends, pets...the list goes on. @Kate

My reason to stay is my friend, Ethan. He helped me through some very dark times, and made me feel like I was needed in the world.

Another reason is I really, really want to have a pet fox.

@MangleTheFox21

A pet fox sounds incredible! I've seen videos of especially tame, wild ones that love to be petted and come to people every day just to be stroked haha. I hope you get your pet fox one day. :)

For me, my miniature dachshund puppy will do haha. He's enough of a handful of 'adorable trouble'. haha

I like foxes sonce they are a mix of cats and dogs mentality, they are shy and stealthy and skittish like cats even if they are canides. I like how they play and once you befriend them they are so cute. Mine were feral, just wandered in my back yard. I remember the woman living alone in the arctic circle Sue Aikins she had her foxes and loved them as friends. I hope and wish you get your fox pet if that makes you happy🤗😊

Because others say one is supposed to.

- Curiosity, no matter how bad and stuck mist be right now, aren't you curious to see what the next page of the saga brings you, if even for the worst?🙄

- The spite of it, "the bring it on" mentality, see what destiny can throw at you some more!

- hope and love😶...never say never...because miracles happen❤...

(to all those whom I lost to suicide...and thanks to the pharma lady who rescued me when I did my attempt...)

Because no matter how much trauma or heartache, heartbreak or grief I have been through, there have always been those special moments that catch you out of the blue one day where, if only for a minute, you feel "I am glad to be alive".

This can be simple. It might be while feeding ducks and hearing them gratefully quack. It might be looking up to the night sky and witnessing a shooting star. It might be a pleasant smile from a stranger or someone showing a small act of kindness.

Life is worth sticking around for the simpler things.

Even if I paused my life at 30 right now, and ignored all the pain, suffering and trauma I have been through, I could find more than enough happy moments in that time, if I truly tried, to justify sticking around.

Because of all the joy and happiness and love I have experienced in life, I never saw it coming.

And just because I am in another very rough patch, rebuilding from rock bottom so to speak, after another major break down where everything in my life has come crashing down on me and it's easy to think "what's the point?", I can let my imagination and hope run away from me and wonder, calmly...

I wonder what special, loving, caring, happy, meaningful moments are around the corner from now on. That I can't see right now, but if I stick around long enough, I might be lucky enough to experience...

Believe me, it took a long time to reach this point. I've been in a 6 month black hole of a void lately. But I am starting to see the light.

When you experience even a small glimmer of hope. Do not doubt or question it. Seize it with both hands and do not let go!

I'm keeping myself alive for myself. I want to do something before I get lost in the unknown. Sometimes it's a struggle to keep going through each minute.

Because I don't want to hurt anyone, especially not my parents.

We all die anyway, might as well stick around for the good moments. There's always a chance things will get better. Unless, of course, you're dead.
