Talking About Something I Didn't Mention In Group Therapy

In this post, I will be talking about my  anxiety and OCD, as well as my checking compulsion.

So I didn't mention this in group therapy because I was not interested in sharing about my OCD. This is something I avoided due to anxiety, and also because I have OCD about OCD. I'm being serious, that's an actual thing. This week, we were working on exposure hierarchies, i.e. the steps you use to gradually expose yourself to something you fear.

Anyway, I've been working on getting out of my comfort zone because it's a healthy thing to do for everything I have. This includes doing things like going to new cafes, ordering food by myself, doing bizarre but not illegal things in public, etc. In this case, I was going to see a movie in theatres.

I was worried it was the wrong theatre because of how long it was taking the movie to start. I was also confused by the trailers, because it didn't feel like trailers you'd watch for a kid's movie (I got tickets to see the Pixar movie "Elio"). But I resisted checking, going outside and inside to make sure it was the right theatre, checking my tickets, etc. This hadn't happened before, but it was also the first time I was in a movie theatre by myself. I also wasn't expecting to get worked up over it.

Good news, I survived without checking. This isn't normally what I check when it comes to my checking compulsion, but it was still an exposure success!

Sounds like good progress..

I am a person who checks and double checks and it is a hard habit to let go of.

I wish i could give some of my compulsion to check  things with others  that i know ...who never check and often find themselves in the wrong theater or wrong line for something... it would be great to even it out.  lol
