Helping others has always been easy for me. However helping myself was unknown. I've grown to learn to help myself not only for me but for the benefit of my son as well. Now I take on the real challenge to pursue winning full custody.

I'm not concerned about my self worth or that I can't cope in this existence, my issue is why? What's the point? If I'm just a cog in a big machine then whether I do anything or not isn't going to Change the outcome. . DEATH.. I suppose I could "do my part" " play the game" work, pay my bills, visit family yawn yawn but it don't change a thing.. we are just finding things to do til we expire... That's it! Oh sure I suppose if you believe in a religion and you believe there is more past the darkness of death then good for you, but I think we all know there is nothing but Darkness. We cease to exist. So what is the point? Just to stay busy? Make as much money as you can? Have as much sex as you can with as many people as you can? At the end of it all we won't remember any of it. It's like a bad joke but the joke is on us. I guess I'm looking for a reason, one that's good enough that I can believe in that will make this life worth trying to enjoy.

Not sure if this is going to be helpful... I often have the same thoughts, and I see that they are making me feel miserable. It sounds to me that you are not very satisfied with your life. If this is true, it's sad...

Because I don't want to live a miserable life and my personal values don't allow me to commit a suicide now (and the suffering is probably not at a super high level), I do everything to distract myself. I will go out and enjoy the beauty of nature, I will do math because of the beauty of the problem/theorem, I will listen to a piece of music that sounds "perfect" to me, etc... And I feel better; my mood changes, and my thoughts become more positive and hopeful. If I'm choosing to live this life, I will try to make it as enjoyable as I can. My happiness also increases when I express gratitude or make someone's day a bit less gloomy.

@Whatsthepoint99 every little thing plays a part. A machine doesn't work properly if there is one tiny little piece missing. So you are important. The point is to change your focus I guess. Why focus on death that will happen some day when you can focus on living everyday? Why not be a reason to make someone smile, help someone, make someone feel loved. I know it's easier said than done but don't you think it's worth a try?

I have learned that I need to take a leap of faith. That being selfish isn't always a bad thing, especially after I've been selfless for so long. I am trying to learn that I cannot control the actions or feelings of others based on how I feel, or what I choose to do. It's a hard lesson to learn, but I am getting there.
