I recently learned from a video on this site that will power is, despite what a lot of people may tell us, a finite resource and that we cannot expect ourselves to be perfectly self-disciplined within a matter of days. Instead, mastering our will power takes a good amount of practice, patience, and pushing yourself just a little bit each day. For instance, I want to lower the amount of time I spent relaxing after a workout before taking a shower. While my eventual goal is to waste little to not time before the shower, the best way to really boost my will power for this specific task is to slowly decrease how many minutes I spend laying down on the bed (with towels underneath me). For the first two days, it's an hour, then for the next two days its 50 minutes, then it's 45 minutes, then it's 40, and so on, until eventually I pretty much get into the shower right away after I workout. Yup its going to be tricky for me, but I think it works much better than trying to force myself (probably in vain) to get into the shower as soon as I come home from my daily run.

From practicing mindfulness, I am able to understand what is happening with me when I'm emotional and therefore I can interrogate these thoughts. I'm making so much progress :)

I've learned that I'm not alone, and that there are many other people on a journey of recovery.
