I am not alone!
I just reached 10. And it feels like I haven't done anything but on the other hand doing this 9 more times will bring me to 100 and that's awesome
Back here after a long time. Hoping for more learning and excitement. :D
I just joined, an am now on step #10. I think things are going up.
What I learned is that there are still a lot of listeners that don't care to give their attention to their members who ask for their help.
What I've learned is that there are a few mods, not going to name any, so don't bother asking, that are corrupted and play favorites with members and listeners.
I've learned that people are so used to being shut down by other listeners and mods that they are afraid to open up and get the help that they want.
So what if someone curses because they are in such an emotional turmoil?
When they get muted or warned or banned, they are on the brink of hurting themselves and they see their post/comment get deleted... how do you think they feel?
Because I've seen people snap.
They don't have the money for a therapist so they use this site.
They have no one they feel they can trust so they use this site.
What I've learned is that people are so PCP and trigger happy about censoring people that they forget what this place is about.
If people need to vent by cursing or screaming, they should be allowed that.
And if you can't take that as a listener or mod, then step down.
I get if they insult you, but if they are just expressing their opinion or feelings on their life or a topic, freaking let them.
Their life is scrappy enough without everyone going "Oh no! We have to report them because they said 'fuuuuu'. Oh no, whatever will we do, they didn't even spell the whole word out, but oh no, we have to silence them even though it's not an actual word at all, but who cares! Loopholes! Yay! "
What I learned is that if you want to be a listener, a mod, or a leader; you need to keep an open mind to all walks of life, not just what you deem valuable.
I've learned that people come in all shapes and sizes and that if I want to help them, I need to be patient and understanding.
I banned someone early because I felt insulted, after the time had passed I realized that I made a rash decision, I was emotional and acted on impulse.
I've learned that as a listener, I need to be more mindful of my own emotions least they envelope me.
I've learned that if I am not calm and considerate, I will snap and all my negative emotions will come tumbling out.

This growth path is a really helpful therapy! :D
Step #10. Step by step, little by little things can get better. Take your time to relax with things that are relaxing for you - not what others say should be relaxing.
i just want to say that getting out of bed in the morn is so hard for some people, especially if you suffer from depression or a similar disorder and getting out of bed and going on with simple tasks is such a huge milestone for some people that really needs to be recognized. every little baby step is important!! stay safe everyone <3
