Starting to get my head under control and seize an opportunity to be more mindful about my life today. Step 10 reached!
@fishrgreat~ step 10! yay!
so proud of you!
I'm starting to realise as time goes on that love is not, and should never be tied to, 'Look how much I did/how I made this perfect for you.'
The insidious thing is, when as a child you become a reflection of your abuser, they want you to make everything perfect for them so you do but what I'm realising is that I shouldn't tie love and approval to 'I made things perfect, please like me!' In fact, I shouldn't even seek approval because that's unhealthy in itself. I need to come to peace with the fact that I can try and fail and still be loved for who I am not what I can do for other people.
It's definitely hard, because when you've spent so long actually genuinely believing that 'getting everything done you've been asked to do' is a valid way to express love, you almost long to go back to a point where it was that simple. But I know that's not healthy and I'm glad I'm not that person any more. I'm glad that as times goes on I'm becoming more and more a real person and not just the perfect housekeeper that I think my mother really wanted. That really does make me feel good and I need to focus on that to get me through difficulty, because if nothing else, I own me now. No else does, and that's really empowering. :)
