Sometimes you just need a hug (15 years long hassle)
Hi everyone,
I felt like sharing this to some others today because it was a bit unexpected and took me by surprise.
But basically I had been struggling for 15 years. Ruminating on the past due to some unknown health issues, a friendship loss...
2011 was extremely hard for me and even if people might say "Hey it was alright, you didn't lost anyone" I firmly believe this year had taken a bit of my sanity and I was really on edge as I was going through it. I could go into details to explain how bad it was but I was severely lacking nutrients had restless sleep and all my nights were made of suffocating nightmares and I'd perpetually try to catch my breath. I learned 5 years ago it was food intolerances causing this horror but still, this left me really mentally damaged, bitter and traumatized.
And one of the rare things that kept me functioning was music. One artist's music that I had the chance to see and meet on this January and to my own surprise he offered me a hug which (also to my surprise) also deflated my bitterness on the past.
I guess I just felt a sort of validation. Without even saying a single word, I had simply listened to this guy's music and felt a lot of sympathy for him as he was talking of topics that were heavily relatable at the time for me (loss, letting go, feeling lonely, dealing with certain type of people).
While I was loosing friendships I lost so much time talking and remained misunderstood and here, without a single word, I felt validated. Which still confuses me a lot. But makes me incredibly grateful and touched.
I still can't quite explain what it did but I guess it felt like the suffering me who felt connected to him through music felt seen. And I was feeling so unseen, and like I could die unnoticed back then... I guess it triggered something.
Since then, I started digging out some old hobbies I frequently stopped due to ruminations. And I see myself feeling able to have more assertiveness and calmness when sick.
I also tried gathering ideas to start an artistic project inspired by this artist. And it has been a while that I haven't been that invested and thrilled to start working on something. But it really revigorated me and makes me want to pass on the love.
All of this to say that, sometimes, you may see some very old and even traumatic issues resolving themselves without even trying to resolve them. I never expected this to happen out of a hug but here I am.
The gratefulness I feel is hard to describe. But if all of this have teached me one thing, it's that sometimes words are unnecessary. Actions matters more.
Thank you, dear artist, for making me feel seen. This may not seem like much to you but you made me feel something very unique and special that nothing else will be able to replicate. I can now look back and accept it all. I dont feel the urge to keep trying to do anything as much as I used to do.
I used to log on my ex-friend popular webcomic/manga in the hope to see myself through it. But I see it is useless now. Because someone resonated with me. That is all I wanted.
I stopped fighting and I started loving my enemies.
I also hope people who has been in similar situations than mine or even suffering more can be given such a chance to finally come to terms with the past too. No matter the form this will take.
Stay strong. There's still time.

that you so much for your post. It really hit home for me as I am 61, have/had many life issues and traumas. I am stuck ruminating on the past and many dreams that never happened/will not be possible at all now. Other dreams - the core main idea seems maybe possible but not in the way I envision it or wanted- per my therapist still possible but on this other path etc.
anyway- you truly said it for me whn I realized a large part of it was I did not feel seen/heard through my traumas. And yes- for me now- I have discovered different types music speak to my different moods. For me - some musical sounds snd lyrics can feel like speaking directly to me about a specific issue I am grappling with- and I feel like I get an epiphany/answer about what to do /not do, or I feel I get peace, love, acceptance snd I can let it go.
Sometimes a hug just - for me/ brings peace joy love hope acceptance validated- or from a sincere smile. For me- I can get really positive vibes from laying / hugging my kitty cat .
I wish you much success with your new artistic project .

Thank you vert much for your heartfelt comment. This is the exact reason why I wanted share this story, offering perspective to people who might be in some similar headspaces. Sometimes the loop can be so intense that we forgot that, ultimately, all these mental traumas and question get engraved in our very own flesh. And that it's the single contact with the world out there that might unlock it or at least initiate the unlocking. And truth is, nothing is ever too late and sometimes the solution takes the simplest forms.
Also, thank you for your support on my projects too. I wish you the same success with your life and hope the road ahead will progressively get easier for you.

That's a brave post, I hope your art project helps.
@RunningMachine Thank you !
Only time will tell. I'm usually not that good to finish projects but it seems that this encounter removed a good chuck of heavy things off my mind. So I go this at least. Hopefully this will leave more room to this project now !

I've got a friend who just had a 3rd spinal fusion operation earlier in the week, she's doing well returned home this afternoon. Arts and crafts has been her way of keeping herself occupied for the past few months, I've had to be gracious each time she shared photos 😉
@RunningMachine
I'm unsure I understood the last phrase (I'm not a native English speaker) but I wish her a smooth recovery then !
@navyMelon5225
Sorry, the last phrase was that I had to be mindful to show appreciation of her works, when I didn't always feel much, to help keep her enthusiasm going
I think my heart is looking for something like that. Simple acts of care that resonate with me. I do have friends im blessed with, but I don’t have many people im emotional with. I’ve never really had a meaningful hug before. I think my heart is looking for people it can truly be safe with. Anyway enough about me haha. I’m truly glad that a simple act of care truly helped you that much, and it goes to show that sometimes that is all we need 🙂
@mattgamer07
No worries ! I really hope you'll have some opportunities to get some then ! I guess we have to put ourselves out there for it to happen sometimes. I could have avoided this as the performance ended but then the artist himself said he'd be available to the public so, why avoid it ?
I believe that as long as you're working toward it, it will happen !
@navyMelon5225
