Practising gratitude

Gratitude is a skill that we can cultivate. Over the past two years, I have made a conscious attempt to increase my gratitude quotient through simple everyday actions. Here are a few things that I have experienced personally and thought of sharing with you. Gratitude helped me overcome the tendency to compare myself to others, made my memories more joyful, helped me experience good feelings for an extended period and steered me to bounce back from stress.

Here are some of the other things that I have experienced. I think I have become more optimistic, spiritual and my self-esteem have gone up a few notches. Conversely, I have also become less materialistic and less self-centered.

I now try to live my life according to this quote which is very close my heart:

"Let us rise up and be thankful, for if we didn't learn a lot today, at least we learned a little, and if we didn't learn a little, at least we didn't get sick, and if we got sick, at least we didn't die; so, let us all be thankful." – Buddha

Would love to know your thoughts and if my experience resonates with you. Take care and be happy.

@AnandoBytes

I like to end my day by writing down five things I'm greatful for, instead of wasting time searching for better 🤗💚

@Amanda84 can relate to that. I don't maintain a journal but I try to remember things that went well and for which I feel grateful. Thanks for sharing.

I've been dealing with some health problems but I'm finally finding my footing again. Periodically to combat overwhelming negativity I would say I'm not where I want to be but it's a place I couldn't get to before. Then I realized that was still being a little negative so I changed it to I'm thankful for where I am because it's a place I couldn't get to before. It's helped a lot.

Yes, it can. Practice makes perfect but to be level headed practice produces better results. With enough practice a positive mindset can become the default and you're absolutely correct it does make you more spiritual. Negativity isn't of the spirit and eventually negativity won't be of you. We all just have to be mindful of those concepts.

I don't want to be on my soapbox for too long but last year I had made it my business to read my scriptures every day. I started doing that in March of 2025. Its May of 2026.

I have had to fight my way out of that pit and build, build, build but the experience I've gained I'll never forget. Yes, I still have difficult days but now their just passing storms.

The negative stuff, the destructive thoughts, the negative thoughts it's not of the spirit but it is a sign that a part of you is detaching from that.

I hope this little insight helps.

This really resonated with me. You can genuinely feel the growth and intention behind your words, and I think it’s powerful that you approached gratitude as a skill instead of just an emotion. A lot of people wait to feel grateful, but you made a conscious effort to practice it daily, and it sounds like it changed the way you experience life.

I especially liked what you said about gratitude helping you stop comparing yourself to others. That’s such a hard thing to overcome, and honestly one of the biggest thieves of happiness. Being able to appreciate your own journey without constantly measuring it against someone else’s is huge. Thanks for sharing!

Sure, your thought is powerful and hence resonates with me. We are all born with some gifts or something good, why not practice gratitude for each day we live with those good things. It could be minimal, it could be hidden, but, certainly there is something...

Thank you for the thought.
