Things People Who Have Experienced Housing Insecurity Wish You Knew
If this is part of your life story, please share your insights! What would you like the rest of us to learn? What should we know about people in this community? How would you like people to interact with you? Should people ask questions? What’s the best way for people to learn about this? Do you have any resources (books, movies, YT videos, etc) that will give us greater understanding and empathy and kindness toward people who experience the same things you do?
If you’re not on this journey, please share insights you’ve learned while interacting with those who are, whether family, friends, or anyone else. Share things you’ve read, and ask if they’re true. Share beliefs that you have, ask questions, and more! This is a safe space where you can learn about things you’ve never experienced. <3
Let’s have a gentle, fun, friendly conversation among friends! As a song in one of the Land Before Time movies says, “It takes all sorts to make a world!” <3

Thanks for the tag
@jesusredeemedme2425 This is easy for me to answer. Never judge the "homeless" or those in a homeless shelter. Everyone's story is different and we are all on different paths.
If you have never experienced homelessness, then count yourself blessed.
If you have experienced homelessness, then still count yourself blessed and know things don't always have to be this way. There's hope and only one direction ⬆️ to go when at the bottom. ♡☆
What I have learned is this-- in life-- one day you can have everything. And the next, all can be taken and lost. That's why it's important to never put things or people on a pedestal and take for granted material possessions. Here one day, gone the next. Homelessness can happen to any of us. But remember no one is less than another. No one is better than another.
Also know this: not all "homeless" people live a life of drugs or alcohol. Not all are criminals or mentally unstable. Sometimes life just kicked people down and now they have to rebuild.
So please be kind to people-- whoever they are or what place they are. :) Fun fact: when I was homeless and then later got a bed in a homeless shelter, I was dressed way better than I do now. 😂 Clothes were always available to me at churches or parking lots where people did meals and clothing for the unhoused. You couldn't even tell if you looked at me physically, so it's important to not judge someone by their clothes. 😀
That's all from me for now.
