Things People With DID Wish You Knew
If this is part of your life story, please share your insights! What would you like the rest of us to learn? What should we know about people in this community? How would you like people to interact with you? Should people ask questions? What’s the best way for people to learn about this? Do you have any resources (books, movies, YT videos, etc) that will give us greater understanding and empathy and kindness toward people who experience the same things you do?
If you’re not on this journey, please share insights you’ve learned while interacting with those who are, whether family, friends, or anyone else. Share things you’ve read, and ask if they’re true. Share beliefs that you have, ask questions, and more! This is a safe space where you can learn about things you’ve never experienced. <3
Let’s have a gentle, fun, friendly conversation among friends! As a song in one of the Land Before Time movies says, “It takes all sorts to make a world!” <3
Thankyou for being a caring person as you are and for doing this. Not only that but actually trying to learn a bit. I think it’s very good of you
@ConstellationSystem
Awww thank you <3 I really love learning about new things, and understanding people better. I recently encountered someone with Tourette's (loud and attention-getting, not mild like my own). I was able to just relax around him (when no one else was) because I've learned so much about Tourette's over the years. I hope that these posts do the same for other people, for every disorder and people group and religion and everything else. Just learning about them, instead of sterotyping and shying away from them. Learning to accept and love them for the wonderful people they are <3
I feel like God must be proud of you. I’m not Christian but I think you’re walking the path really well because you are very compassionate. I didn’t know you had Tourette’s. I don’t know much about it myself but I’m glad that you could be there for that person with more severe Tourette’s. It sounds like it can feel really lonely being shied away from for something you can’t help doing.
I hope so. <3
I try. I used to be much more of a hater. Then I realized that it’s true. We all got sins, we all got differences, we all believe something different. And hate doesn’t have to exist. You can disagree with something or someone’s beliefs, etc, without hating them. “The greatest of these is love.” <3
I have a list a mile long of things I have lol
Exactly. Something I took away from all the Special Books for Special Kids videos is when Chris asks the kids with disorders, “How should people treat you?” And they say…”Just talk to me. Be my friend.” Because people see the disorder and not the person…
@jesusredeemedme2425 Well no one is perfect that’s not our job right? Sometimes I am a hater even now, I have work to do with empathy. It can be hard to think outside of oneself at times and stand in someone’s shoes. But you spreading this feeling and warm education will help people do the same including me. Also, I love those videos I haven’t see one in ages but I always cry lol
Exactly. Plus I see racist tendencies in me that I do NOT want, but they’re ingrained and I have to teach myself otherwise. It’s hard. Our world is very racist and pounds it into your head all the time.
I tagged you in the SBSK post <3
@jesusredeemedme2425 that’s really honest of you. I believe in you to overcome those bad teachings and continue to learn better and understand others to wash away those divisive thoughts and feelings. For me I sometimes judge people very harshly with things I think should be commonly known when people have different walks in life and what is common to some people isn’t to others. There’s alot I should know and don’t too.
As the Bible says (I’m not preaching, just quoting), paraphrased, “I do what I don’t want to do, and don’t do what I want to do.” It sucks.
Speaking of common, I think common sense should be much more common than it is XD
What do you not know yet?
@jesusredeemedme2425 I appreciate the quote I think it’s really true. Painfully true actually really painful.
It’s universal.
Dude. My cultural foods posts? I’m literally googling it. My geography skills suck lol
@jesusredeemedme2425 mine too I’m honestly a dunce with a lot of academic topics. Like Maths. I don’t know how to think in numbers very well. LOL it’s either a wonder or quite a testimony to the quality of our schooling system that we passed. Just kidding I shouldn’t dunk so hard on the others in here who DID attend school. They did their best and we made it anyway.
You must be from the opposite side of the world from me, since you said maths. I’m American! I’m guessing the UK maybe? <3
I’m awful at math lol
I was homeschooled <3
Exactly! <3
I’m actually from Canada but I pick up weird things I guess. Not sure why I said that
@jesusredeemedme2425 since we’re being honest I also can be sexist towards men out of fear and I don’t necessarily want to be like that either.
Same!!!! You should see a bunch of my past posts. You’ll see. PTSD messed me up, dude…
@jesusredeemedme2425 I understand your feeling very much. I have a lot of empathy for you. It’s really really horrible. There’s alot that can be said about why women might feel sexist towards men. It’s crap. But still. It can’t stay like that forever…
One would think. I currently see no end to the PTSD…
People who fake DID are doing more damage than they realize. Same thing for spreading misinformation. It can cause a system to be unable to function. Even passively, being unable to settle in their thoughts, feelings, or perceptions. Your consciousness becomes a source of fear more than it already is.
Never ever push your opinions on a system’s trauma or life narrative. Telling a system they went thru xyz trauma (true or not) can completely traumatize them and once again destroy functionality. If it’s true, that was absolutely not your right to do. The brain eases itself into it on its own when it is ready and it is actually not helpful to ‘help’ a system remember like that. If it’s untrue (which my system experienced from another system ‘friend’) it once again can cause extreme dysfunction. You are not psychic, you’re not some super psychologist. You cannot ‘guess’ a system’s trauma or its nature or severity based on anything you see or do not see. And quite frankly it’s none of your business.
You can never replace a protector or should ever want to no matter what your opinion is. You will never know better than the system knows even if you think you do and you think dissociation took that away. Even a fractured person has an innate knowing, understood by them or you or not. Someone inside knows. Their voice usurps yours 100% of the time.
Do your alters ever annoy each other?
What are some of your funniest stories of life with DID?? <3
@jesusredeemedme2425 yes especially when we were younger we annoy eachother but in a big way sometimes we get frustrated
a funny story I can think of is one time we couldn’t open a pickle jar so one of the boys fronted and opened it so easy and it made someone outside laugh it was normal but someone laughed and suddenly realized that is kind of weird right! lol…
@ConstellationSystem the person knew about us …
What annoys the other alters?
Bahahahaha that’s EPIC XD We really need a “funny stories about DID” post hehe
It sounds so stupid idk lol but yeah! Can’t say many funny moments have happened, but I’m sure there’s some.
What annoys us? I guess in terms of this disorder it’s really *** annoying to forget constantly. Even though it’s better than before. Forgetting details about people all the time feels terrible, I have a best friend of over 20 years and I keep forgetting key stuff about her and the rest of my friends. They can tell me again but l don’t know. :( same with coworkers. It took me forever to remember dietary restrictions of one I really care about a lot and kept offering her food she can’t have pretty much everyday she looked annoyed eventually which is how we remembered cause of fear lol….
@jesusredeemedme2425 we wish people knew that we aren’t just personalities or moods of a singlet (non system). We’re all individuals and trying our best to exist in the same body.
