I'm just wondering if you guys enjoy reading self development books or have taken any courses on being happier/less stressed/more fulfilled/Developing Personally ? What about them did you like/dislike?

I've personally read a few good inspirational books myself like

-Tuesdays WithMorrie

-Self-Coaching: The Powerful Program to Beat Anxiety and Depression

- The Happiness Project

I've found that each have had nuggets of wisdom I've tried to apply piece by piece to my own life :) I've found the application of them as something I've had to become consciously aware of as well. For instance...When I feel stressed i need to remember to tell myself to "stop" and take a few moments to re-center myself. But it's helped me develop some good habits to deal with my negative emotions:)

Hi, Mumsy, I'm happy to know that you have benefited from the self-help books.

I set up a thread here "What Are You Reading?" and there are posts from the other listeners who mention the self-help books they have read. Laura also posted a link on one of the threads, titled 23 Books That Will Change Your Life.

I've read several self-help books myself and this one is a very light, practical reading: You Can Change Your Life by Dr. Rob Yeung. I love it because this book is not only written with beautiful, positive words, but also because every theory comes from a scientific psychological research using data (but still, a light reading!). Here's the Amazon link of the book.

Thanks for posting this!

I don't often read self-help books, but I've been working through one recently that I think I can recommend in good faith. Why Do I Do That? by Joseph Burgo. It's a clear and very interesting book about understandingdefense mechanisms, and learning how to recognize/challenge them.

I also really enjoy the essays of Adam Phillips, Stephen Mitchell (esp. hisCan Love Last?),Christopher Bollas, and Jessica Benjamin. Personally, I've found them quite helpful, although I don't think they would be categorized as self-help in Barnes & Noble or something.

I don't often read as much as I should but I am about to start reading "Daring Greatly: How the Courage to be Vulnerable Transforms the Way We Live, Love, Parent, and Lead" By Dr.Brene Brown. I've heard nothing but great things about the book and I loved her TEDx talk.
