The Moment of Sudden Realization & Insight
An Aha moment is one of "moment of sudden realization, inspiration, insight, recognition, or comprehension." Made popular by Oprah Winfrey.
As we grow here together & with our listeners, we all will hopefully experience an Aha moment! Lets share your aha moments in this forum post!
How did it come to you? What did you learn? What does it feel like to have an aha moment?
@Laura
My 'aha moment' was realizing how at peace I feel when I just sit outside and stare at the sky. I get lost in thought and it feels so peaceful, and that's how I realized that life is awesome and beautiful and joyful.
My aha momment was in college when I finally had names for all the things that about me depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder my whole life I just thought I was weird and unwanted until I had my first mental breakdown and lost it I was evaluated and given the treatment I needed.
my aha-moments seem to come at intersting times, only later do i realize them for what they are, a chance to change for the better. Right now I am in a bad place, like a really bad place, my depression and anxiety are worse than they have been in years, BUT i know they will get better. I have been here before so I have the ability to look on my past and realize that I made it through before and that I can make it through again. I am back on medication and back in therapy which idk what I would do i i was not, but I want this to be a happy post not a sad post. We all have slumos even the best of us but that voice inside us that whispers for us to keep going, even when that voice iis not strong and even when we are not strong. We can still go on, even if it's only a step or a half step a day, we can make it through. We can fight on and see through to the other side of depression and anxiety and whatever mental illness we have, it may come back and we may have to fight again, but we can make it, I know I have before and I know I can again, I know I will again. Please be kind to youself and others and remember YOU matter.
i had my aha moment on my 15th birthday which was 1 week ago cause i've decided to change my outlook in life, like woah i can't be like this until i die, yes i may still have my sad and bad moments but life goes on so that's it :--)
Sudden realization is I need to turn my phone off at night , so I can get to sleep my 8 hours, my parents think everyone should be up by 6am . I never have idk if I ever will willingly. Omg so pushy, she wants to work all weekend long. And start fresh Monday morning to began again.
OK I'm thinking give them both what they want, husband included. Hmmmm, I wonder, how bad I'll hurt if I try this. Yes I'm fed up, yes I'm being stubborn, and yes I'm at a loss on what to do.
I knew things were going to well, I've learned to stay on guard with my family, sad but true. Push,push,push, go,go,go, I'm to tired to think right now. Heads hurting.
My aha moment was when I realized that I will no longer be connected to the only person i have ever loved. It was the hardest thing I've ever had to deal with. But somehow I understood that I deserve better and that I am a good person, and even though I still get those moments of not feeling good enough or pretty enough I've been slowly trying to make a change for the better.
I've moved a lot in my life - and I really mean A LOT. So by now I'm pretty good at starting over, making friends quickly and building community. But it still hurts every time I have to pack up and I've been questioning why.
My AHA moment was when I realized, I'm a creator! I'm an artist who loves making things, building projects from scratch and envisioning ideas. Taking things apart, putting things into boxes, throwing things out that still have value are all the complete opposite of what I do and just goes against my nature. That makes more sense to me than what counsellors suggest, that I'm "accumulating loss" or whatever academic nonsense they like to throw in :)
And knowing that somehow makes it better.
I'm venting to my best friend about my emotionally draining and stressful ex. I realized that what they have tried to do to me wasn't okay and that I am worth something. That I am better than my intrusive thoughts and negativity. That I have friends who love me and support me.
About a month ago I had a dream. I don't vividly remember what happened but I do recal that at least two people I knowledge had died in the dream. I'd woken up from the dream with sweat on my palms, and in a state of momentary panic. I tried not to think about the dream much (,that's what I always seem to do with things that bother me.) Then just last week my mind was racing, and the dream had come into my thoughts. At first thinking about it cases me distress, but then at that precise time I had an AHA moment. I realize that the people in my life could die today, tomorrow, or anytime in the future. This is why you need to appreciate the people in your life, because they won't always be there.
