P&G Check-in: 8 February - 14 February 2021

Hello, wonderful people of the P&G Community !
Continuing with the theme of writing as a tool for wellbeing (last week was the Gratitude Journal), the topic I propose for this Check-In is:
Making a Checklist of Positive Things we can do
Airplane pilots go through a written checklist every time before takeoff. They have done it hundreds of times. They know by heart what they have to check.
So why go through a written list ? The paradox is that, after so many times, they don't feel the need to look once more the same indicators, because "they already know it".
With time, they drift apart from actually doing the things they rationally know they have to do. They need every time to read aloud a written list to make sure they do those critical checks.
When we don't feel well, we might experience a similar paradox. We don't see, nor do, even the most obvious and minimal things that would make us feel better.
Trapped in a feedback loop of negative emotions, we might forget those easy positive behaviors that could help us get out of the trap.
A simple sheet of paper in which we regularly register things that make us feel well, could help us find the way out of those negative states.
We could then, very easily, check many positive alternatives that we have at hand, and pick those that best fit our current level of energy and motivation.
Questions:
- How do you feel today ?
- Do you remember the things that make you feel better, when you are in a negative mood ?
I look forward to your comments, and wish you all the best !
Marcelo.

@WelcomeToChat I feel very hopeless today, all my freedom has been stripped away from me, I've just been walking aimlessly the past few years trying to just get somewhere. My mom she criticizes everything she doesn't agree with. Or like. She almost never has anything good to say about anything. I spend hours drawing her something and she just looks at it once and goes back to watching the news. Screaming at the tv. Screaming at her phone. Watching news 24/7 constantly constantly. She expects me to be with her 24/7 and I'm losing my mind. I didn't do very great, haven't really done very great, you caught me at a time where my mask slipped off. And I'm honestly surprised you caught it. You remind me of a mother figure I've always wanted to have. My world has gotten a bit gray. And the more I step onto that scale the more I want to curl up in a ball and scream. I feel like I'm losing control, I barely have anything in my life that is in my control. I can't learn from my mistakes because I almost never get to experience anything. I've never been outside of the country, never went on a vacation, never even had a snowball fight, or went sled riding, never had a birthday party with my childhood friends, never went to a birthday party, never went to a school dance, never went on a date, I have such bad social anxiety and sometimes those type of girls that whine about their weight and their friends when they are literally perfect I just want to throw a punch at them. Because I haven't been 100 pounds since I was 8. I can't give out speeches because every time I do my anxiety screams at me don't mess up they are all judging you why are you even trying do you think they are really listening to you? My own mom... Barely listens to me she gets mad at me for not talking to her but when I do the next day she asks me what I was talking about yesterday. Or she turns it into a life lecture. Or tells me what she would do. I'd do this.. Yeah mom, I know what you'd do but you're not me are you? Lecture me about my weight tell me guys don't like girls who are really big say it's not attractive. Keep throwing me down mom, sooner or later you won't be able to throw me down any further. Every time I see Jason my mood lights up a bit, my eyes start to like see in color again. But then I remember, he doesn't want me in his life. So I just look down at the floor and walk past. Guys don't see me, no matter how hard I try to look girly or how loud I speak or how proud I stand. I guess I just... gave up. On myself. On mom. On my friends. On Jason. On trying... I don't want to get up I don't even think I can.
Something that makes me happier? My friends, I never get to see them because I can only see them in school when I get home all my happiness goes.... away
@TheAloneAndAfraid
Hi !
I am sorry for all you have gone through.
In which sense you feel you have lost all your freedom ?
In my opinion, we have always some freedom to choose our attitude and some actions to take in our life. Nobody can take that freedom from us.
It's great that you like drawing. Do you draw in graphite pencil, pen and ink, or some other medium ? I draw too ! If you wish, I could guide you to some resources to improve your drawing skills.
Don't depend so much on your mom's judgment of your drawings. You could join some online community of like-minded people, and exchange commentaries and suggestions about your artwork. Communities like Art Amino, DeviantArt, Instagram, Ello, Gromsocial, Popjam, etc
Regarding weight management, there is an excellent guide here in 7Cups. I suggest you read it. It's here: https://www.7cups.com/weight-management/
All the best !
Marcelo.
@WelcomeToChat I tend to use colored pencils mostly I can't really use granite and most pencils because it smears too much and when it's in my sketchbook it like smugs on to the page in front of it. Do you know what I mean?
@WelcomeToChat
Hello this week has been a lot for me but I'm doing well. I came home to take a break that was much needed and I got an extension on my internship. Having my friends and my dog around always cheers me up, and I am so grateful for 7cups
Hi~!!! Good idea! more from me later ... especially before or on Sunday, February 14th - an oft dreaded day. <3 Platy
(oh and P.S. I wish we still had the feed. Then we could send Valentine-grams to each other by name!)
Hello to anyone who reads this. 👋 I feel optimistic today and it's a great feeling to have and so I will cherish it while it lasts. 😊 I believe I remember the things that make me feel better although I like this post that what a great idea it is to write a checklist down. Thanks. ☺
@fearlessNickel4472
Thank you for checking in !
I am glad you feel optimistic.
It is a very positive feeling to have, because it motivates us to do things that in turn make us feel even better. And it makes us a lot happier in itself.
Moreover, it is a rational thought to have, because almost certainly things will get better and better if we put a little effort into it.
But what stroke me the most was your consciously cherishing your current positive emotion. How wonderful ! This is a very potent capability and practice of yours.
Also, that you do remember the things that make you feel better, even when you dónt feel that well.
In terms of practicing Positivity, you are doing extremely well !
Let's notice and celebrate that !
Thank you for the compliment ! I am glad that you liked the idea of writing down the "checklist".
Thank you also for participating !
All the best !
Marcelo.
Thanks... reading your message got me crying... thanks for pointing out the good you see in me. I hear nothing nice from anyone, anywhere - and should... so thank you.
@fearlessNickel4472
Thank you very, very much for such a moving answer.
It is the kind of message that gives meaning to me being here.
That makes me feel I have connected to you, soul to soul, and accomplished my mission of being a mirror reflecting a balanced, realistic image that shows how the great person you are.
As I said, you have so many good qualities. I should add one to the list: the power to connect with the soul of another human being, and give genuine love expressing yourself honestly through this connection.
I thought a lot about words that would make justice to such a heartfelt, moving answer. I couldn't find them.
I hope, though, this note helps convey all the good you made to me, and how I felt about it.
Thank you very much again.
I look forward to keeping in touch.
All the best !
Marcelo.
