Hmmm... I'm not sure how to answer that? The only thing that comes to mind is- Drill Sergeants are REALLY good at motivating ppl (its what they do) Is their a Lesson there? IDK. Maybe motivation is dependent upon Reward vs Consequences

@ChromeLotus

Sorry for a late reply - Motivation could be seen as rewards vs consequences!

@HarveyM

Motivation.. The desire or willingness to do something.

For Example:- You could be really eager to travel the world and you don't let anything get in your way. You are motivated about it and will try your best to achieve it no matter what.

I love the answers here, and I think the whole rewards vs. consequences thing @ChromeLotus brought up is really central to motivation. One thing I find interesting is that the idea of push factors (factors th vs. pull factors as aspects of what gets you to make a decision has come up in two very different areas in my life: in therapy as I was getting treated for anxiety/depression and we discussed how anxiety affected my choices, and in my Human Geo class as the factors that contribute to people immigrating to new countries.

In the end, though the definitions of push and pull factors I learned in the two venues are different to fit the greater thing I was learning about in each, I think it still all ends up relating to motivation. Whether it motivates you to leave a country or avoid a situation that gives you anxiety, push factors are like bad things that push you away from something, and pull factors are the opposite, which essentially makes them the two main types of motivation, if that makes any sense.

@angelology

I see! There could be different types of motivation indeed! There is the motivation to do something to avoid one situation, but there is also the other motivation to do something for a task! Thank you for sharing! Have a great day!
