Hi
Good evening. My name is Laura and it is the second Christmas without my husband Jason.
About me, I had a traumatic childhood being institutionalized once they gave me nothing but shots and I was abused in that hospital, and they told my mom to just leave - as in abandoned me, but she refused and took me out, and we moved to California. Later on, I was well enough to get a regular education, but then the horror continued when I was bullied, harassed and even assaulted during my high school years. It was so bad that I ended up going to another school and I managed to graduate. then Iâve been working off and on for a few years while going to college, but apparently my old bullies were up to no good and I got fired from several jobs. Then my mom got laid off from her job and we ended up going to Arizona because we felt we were no longer welcome in California.
Anyway, because it was cheaper to live in Arizona back then I finally moved in my first apartment and I got a job at a call center. I remember it was in 2001 and on my second day there that 9/11 happened. Anyway, during my time there I met a guy who was very nice at first, but it turns out he was hiding secrets from me. Then I realize that he got me fired from the call center job and thatâs when he started his true colors. He abused me both physically, emotionally and verbally abuse me and turned all of our friends and family that we made together against me. Then my mom came to visit and I stayed in her trailer while she was doing an art show and then he abandoned me and took everything away from me. He even committed fraud against me and I lost money and I ended up filing for bankruptcy.
So I was at the lowest point of my life and I feel like I was a failure because I have been abused and assaulted all my life and I wanted to be successful so I joined the Navy.
So I manage to enlist and I went through basic training and then I went to school for my special on job training and thatâs where I met Jason. At first I was hesitant because I was just coming off in abusive relationship, but he managed to break the glass barrier of my introversion. We have many things in common like we realize we both share the same birthday (Feb 15), both of our dads were named Ken, and both served in the Army (even though Jason and I were Navy, lol). Long story short weâve got along, and then we became romantically involved, and I thought that we were going to go to different side of the world that we ended up in Virginia. He loved me so much and he proposed to me two years later after we met. He felt that I finally brought him happiness.
Now about a few weeks after he proposed to me, I finally went to meet his family. I think his mom was the only one who approved of me though. Everyone else, including his father, have mixed feelings about me. I think itâs because he was in a relationship with a girl and who cheated on him, but had his daughter. Jason told his family that he was in love with me and that he is still willing to support his daughter, but his father, Jasonâs aunt, and his grandmother are very distant from me and think like Iâm some sort of homewrecker which Iâm not. Jason broke up with his childâs mother before weâve even met so why does the âhome wreckerâ thought apply?
Anyway, we got married after we got back from our first deployment and then he started going on shore duty, and then I continue my sea duty doing yet another deployment. It was gone so great and we still support each other no matter how long we were apart. He loved me for who I am and for what I do and I do the same for him. but the hatred coming from my in-laws, with the exception of my mother-in-law, was silently spreading against me.
Then around February 2015, our daughter was born. I never thought I would have a child, but I did and she was the most precious thing to me.
Then tragedy struck. My mother-in-law passed away from a sudden heart attack, but I believe it was intentional medical malpractice. But I canât prove it unfortunately. It was this very moment that I knew that something was cursed on me, but even worse is that Jason was starting to go downhill mentally and physically.
About two years later, my father-in-law met someone who apparently was widowed three times and she inherited all of their properties. She hated Jason!!
Around that same time, my father passed away and my stepmother cut me off, leaving me with nothing. Then in 2022 my mom passed away. She had nothing left. Around that time, my husband was medically retired, but the narcissism coming from my stepmother in law continued to affect him mentally. I tried everything to help him but she was just too powerful.
Then on April 4, 2023 he disappeared without a trace. Almost 2 months later, his remains were found. His death was ruled a suicide.
My parents, husband and my mother-in-law were my support system and theyâre now all dead. As a result I suffered mentally and physically, been hospitalized three times and I failed to make rank.
I feel like a *** failure.
I felt that the enemy is trying to get to me all these years and before you know it, my stepmother in law is saying nasty things about me, and the rest of my in-laws are starting to trust her and not me.
Oh, and get this my stepmother in law called me a homewrecker even though sheâs been in family much shorter than I have.
And I really have no family left. Except for my two girls: my 18-year-old stepdaughter and my own daughter who is nine.
Iâve been going through numerous appointments of therapy been going on Zoloft and tried everything but itâs not working. It seems that the devil is stronger than God.
I hate my life. I really do. God please help me stop this curse as has been affecting me for the past 50 years. Iâm about to reach the breaking point so I need all the support I need.
thanks so much for being here and sharing, Laura, my heart truly feels for everything you’ve been through. The amount of pain, loss, and hardship you’ve endured is unimaginable, and yet, here you are, still standing, still fighting, still loving your daughters. That alone speaks to a strength within you that no amount of cruelty or tragedy has been able to erase.
You are not a failure. You are a survivor. Through so many devastating experiences, you’ve continued to push forward, to love, to care, and to fight for yourself and your family. That is not what failure looks like, that is resilience .
I can hear how heavy all of this is, especially now, with another Christmas passing without Jason. Grief is exhausting. Losing so many people who were your supports must feel unbearably lonely, and the way your in-laws have treated you only adds to that pain. It’s completely understandable to feel overwhelmed, frustrated, and even hopeless at times. But I promise you, Laura, you are not cursed. You are not being punished. What you have endured is unfair, unjust, and heartbreaking but it is not a reflection of your worth.
I wish I could take away your pain, but since I can’t, I just want you to know that you’re not alone. There are people out there who care about you, who want to see you find peace and healing. Your daughters need you. You need you. And no matter how dark things feel right now, you are worthy of love, support, and a future that is softer and kinder to you.
Please don’t give up on yourself. Keep reaching out, keep fighting for the light, even when it feels impossible to see. You deserve so much more than what life has given you, and I believe that healing, however long and painful the road may be, is still possible for you.
I’m sending you all my warmth, care, and strength. You are not alone. 💙
