How are we all doing? I hope that the week is being gentle to you and you find time to take care of yourselves. April seems to be flying by! I’ve been super busy with projects and essays lately. If anyone else is feeling stressed and overwhelmed you definitely are not alone. Anyways, what's been going on in your life? I would love to hear updates. ...See more Hello, wonderful student support community! This week we have been talking about procrastination. One way I have found helpful is through goal setting and accountability.  A popular goal setting strategy SMART goals, which break down goals into manageable, motivating, and measurable steps.  What are SMART Goals? SMART goals are: * Specific: Clearly define what you want to accomplish. * Measurable: Identify how you will know when you’ve reached your goal. * Achievable: Ensure the goal is attainable with your current resources and constraints. * Relevant: Make sure the goal matters to you and aligns with your other objectives. * Time-bound: Set a deadline to keep yourself accountable. Why SMART Goals? SMART goals are important to have clear action plans. By specifying exactly what you’re aiming for and how to measure success, you are clarifying your path and increasing motivation. The framework ensures your goals are within reach and relevant to your bigger picture, making procrastination less tempting. Activity: Setting Your Own SMART Goal Let's put this into practice! Think of a project or task you’ve been procrastinating on. Think about the self care that you have been neglecting, or a relationship you would like to improve on. It can be anything! Here’s a simple structure to help you get started: * Specific: I want to complete [task/project]. * Measurable: I will know I have achieved this when [specific outcome]. * Achievable: I will achieve this by doing [actions/resources]. * Relevant: This is important because [reason/goal alignment]. * Time-bound: I will accomplish this by [deadline]. Accountability with Goals Now that you’ve drafted a SMART goal, share it with us!  Post your goal in the comments below. Sharing increases your commitment, and here you’ll also receive support and encouragement from this amazing community. Accountability is an awesome way to fight procrastination. ...See more Hey everyone, Happy fighting procrastination week! Sometimes we find ourselves putting off certain tasks and we get stuck, sometimes really stuck. It can be quite challenging finding a way out of that stuck if we don't know any strategies or ways out. Don't worry we are going to talk about some simple steps we can take to fight procrastination.  Procrastination is a complex issue that doesn't have a one-size-fits-all solution, but there are strategies that can help us manage and overcome the urge to procrastinate. Everyone is going to have different things that work for them. Feel free to read through these strategies and join in on the discussion at the end! Understanding Why Take a few moments for self reflection and explore the reasons behind your procrastination. Are you afraid of failure? Is the task too overwhelming? Understanding the main cause can help you address what's causing you to procrastinate or at least make you aware. Breaking It Down Large tasks can seem daunting and like a huge mountain to climb. Break them into smaller and more manageable pieces. This makes the work seem more achievable and less overwhelming. Setting Clear Goals Define what you want to accomplish with specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound (SMART) goals. Clear goals can provide easy steps and make it easier to start. Using Time Management Techniques Techniques like the Pomodoro Technique (working for 25 minutes, followed by a 5-minute break) can help maintain focus and ensure regular breaks to keep your mind fresh. Making To-Do lists Creating daily or weekly todo lists can help visually see what needs to get accomplished, and make them seem a bit more manageable.  Eliminating Distractions What distracts you? It might be cups, or social media or your friends. Take steps to minimize these distractions. This may mean using website blockers or setting your phone to "Do Not Disturb" mode during work times. Just Starting Often, the hardest part is starting. Commit to working on a task for just 5 minutes. Once you've made a start, momentum can carry you forward. Rewarding Yourself Set up a reward system for completing tasks or milestones. This could be something small, like a coffee break, or something larger for bigger achievements. Accountability and Support Share your goals with a friend, family member, or cups. They can offer encouragement, hold you accountable, or even work alongside you. It's okie to ask for help. Some schools even offer tutors or support meetings. Being gentle with yourself Be kind to yourself if you procrastinate. Self-criticism can lead to a cycle of continued procrastination. Recognize the slip-up, learn from it, and carry on. You are doing your best and im proud of you for that Join us with a discussion!
