I lost my mother 17 years ago
I was 7, about to be 8 the next month. I have some vivid memories from the day I lost her and then it's just a blur after. Either way not the point of this post.
Growing up ofcourse I missed her, but I didn't realize how huge of a loss it was until I went to college and was isolated. I've never felt her presence, and even barely seen her in my dreams. I used to forget the anniversary of her death, mother's day and her birthday while growing up.
Today being mother's day, i weirdly didn't expect it but my grief has over taken me. It's me harder than anytime in the past few years since I've been trying to process her loss.
Just thought I needed this offy chest, thank you for listening.
@Div35 Hi<3 It's true that grief hits hard around special days and even harder when we don't expect it to feel this way. I'm so sorry for your loss. The gravity of a loss is sometimes truly realised when there's been significant distance from when it first happened. Maybe the mind feels that we are mature enough to handle it now and so the floodgates open. It's hard at any age, it's hard to understand, and harder still when we do understand what we've lost.
I hope talking about it here helped a bit<3 and I want you to know that you're not alone, we are here with you.
@Div35
I have found this unexpected all of a sudden grief pops up...
we may get thru a few times and think it is over or something and it pops up and we feel overwhelmed. I find people who talk about their loved one in these moments and others who want to just cry or let things out there is no one size fits all in grief
even if gone a long time never underestimate some small detail bringing memories up.
