Lost my dog a few years ago

It’s coming up on 4 years since I lost my dog to cancer. Honestly it feels like it was just yesterday when I had to say goodbye. I know she is no longer in pain, but it still doesn’t make it any easier without her.

When she had to be put down, it was very sudden. I didn’t have months or even weeks to prepare, I only had a couple of hours. That day is still very vivid in my memory. It hurts to know that she is gone, it hurts so much.

@SpiritPNDA I'm so sorry about your dog 😞 It's one of the hardest things a pet parent goes through. You question choices you made. Wonder if you should have noticed something was wrong sooner - wonder if it would have made a difference. I'm sorry you didn't get any extra time to spend with her - to make some more memories. To maybe do a bucket list with her. I can imagine that came as a serious shock to you 😞

They fill our homes and our hearts. When they're not longer there it's so noticable - so quiet and empty. Only memories remain and the remnants of their time with us. Toys and bowls and beds

I wish there was something I could say that would ease the loss and hurt you feel but I know there's not anything. At least there hasn't been anything that's helped me much
Have you thought about talking with a grief counselor? It might help

If it's ok to ask - what kind of dog was she? What was her name? *sending you peace*

I just lost my sweet Bella two and a half months ago from cancer. I had a couple of weeks with her, but honestly that couple of weeks hurt so much. I watched her go from a vibrant, playful, intelligently ornery beautiful wiggle-butt furbaby to a very sick and withered version of herself. She held on so long just because she didn't want to make me sad. Having to take her in to the Vet, when she was very anxious at the Vet anyway, killed me. The day she died, a huge part of me died with her.

I wish I could offer you some sort of hope. I truly do. However, in a strange sort of way, despite reading that you're still having a difficult time 4 years later... It's somewhat comforting to know that I am not alone in how heartbroken and soul-crushed I feel from losing Bella.

If you ever need a shoulder, don't hesitate to respond back on here or reach out in some way.

I hope you can heal your pain, but I don't blame you at all if it's not something you can do. I know I probably never will heal from losing Bella. I've lost dogs before. I've lost people too. People who were of major significance as well. No one else has hurt this badly for me, and that says a whole lot considering those I've already lost.

I just hope that I am with her once again someday. We are two parts to one whole, without her I'm incomplete. I hope that you are able to be with yours again someday as well.

Im so very sorry for your loss.  Losing a pet is like losing a member of the family.  I recently lost one of my poodles and it was devastating.  Can you share some of your fun memories of your sweet furbaby?

I’m so sorry you had to go through that. Loosing someone you love is rough.

i also lost my dog. 2 years ago this march. She had an infection in her womb that paralyzed 1st her back legs, then also front ones. We took her to a neurologist who saw the infection in a ct we made elsewhere, who operated mastectomy and sent us to physiotherapy to recover her movement.  In two months she recovered completely. Almost one year later she became ill again, but differently this time. We took her back to the dr who operated as he had developed a connection with us and discovered that she had liquid in her lungs. The amount was a lot. He said that it doesn’t look good but we’ll keep on making test and treatment. So he drained the liquid and sent it to test. At this point we were going every day for treatment. He would also give her morphine for the pain. This lasted for a week or so. On Monday we were supposed to get the results, but on Saturday night she passed away. Even tho we were under treatment and new it’s bad, we weren’t expecting it. It came so sudden and stupid really. She struggled to take a poop, I cleaned her and after a while.. that was it. Sitting there petting her paw watching her leave this planet, omg I am sobbing right now. I’ve lost grandparents and ppl I knew. But never felt like this before. She was my everything and I feel like a childless mother. I cry daily. I was hoping that things will get easier with time… oh I am so sorry for your lose. I am here for you.
