What does Grieving Properly even mean?
Why does everyone always say that? How is there a proper way to go through this and how do those steps fix anything?

It makes sense that you’re questioning what “grieving properly” even means or looks like. Your right, people do say it a lot, your valid for questioning it! But grief isn’t something that follows rules or steps. Everyone moves through loss differently, and there’s no single “right” way to feel or cope. Your moving through this the best that you can :)!

You're not wrong to push back on that. "Just follow the steps" can sound like people are handing you a formula for something that doesn't actually have one, and it's fair to be annoyed by it.
For what it's worth, I don't think the steps fix anything on their own. They're more like a handrail you know, something to hold onto on the days you have no idea what to do with yourself. They don't speed anything up. They only just keep you from drifting. And Ill explain that below.
There's no "proper" way to get through it, and you're not doing it wrong. Take the parts that help, ignore the rest, just like sometimes we all need a handrail for the stairs and other times dont need them at all.
