Hey mods! I'd like to invite you all along for our first EVER Group Moddiscussion on Friday, Jan 30 at 5pm EST in the Group Mod Zone room.

Some questions to get us started:

➊ What are some challengingsituations you might encounter as a moderator in Group Support?
➋What can we do to ensure members feel welcome andsupported?
➌ How can we help members to feel safe in Group Support?
➍ When is it appropriate to delete comments or mute a member?
➎ Any other concerns (please comment below with any additional issues you'd like us to discuss so I can be sure to accommodate these)

Look forward to catching up with you allツ

This is such a great idea! I do not know if I will be able to make it, just in case I can?t, I have a few things to say.

1) I think some mods are too quick to mute people. The second they say something a little risky, they are muted, without any warnings. I think we need clear guidelines on the muting process.

2) Sometimes when I enter a room to mod, it?s hard to pick up the convos going on, and contribute to the conversation. I try to catch up as best as I can, but I find it tricky. Usually the convos have been going on for a while and they don?t really want to retype the whole situation, which I understand. Any tips on this?

3) I was wondering what to do when a conflict or issue goes too far. Sometimes a conflict starts between two member/guests, and everyone else then choses the side. Before I know it, the whole room seems to be involved with the conflict. I try to change the topic many times, I remind them we need to drop the issue and moved on, but the issue just keeps growing. If it was one or two people, I would just mute them and move on, but what do you do when it seems to be 10-12 people continuing to fight in conflict?

4) I too believe the waiting room seems to be listener dominated chat. Some people have told me this makes them uncomfortable when they seem to be the only member. I think it?s important listeners/mods experience all the rooms.

5) I think SYS should be changed back to Compassion Corner. SYS gives it a very specific use, basically if you aren?t sharing a story, you aren?t using the room correctly. People who often support others in SYS, really like the idea to change it back to Compassion Corner.

6) I think the idea of more chat rooms is a great idea, many chat rooms are becoming to busy and crowded. I think we need more active moderators than. Almost every time I enter a room, there is no mod.

I hope the chat goes well (:

Some problems I've heard from users are that they will try and talk to a listener and they won't actually be online. Maybe we should have some sort of automated message that checks in with listeners to make sure they're really present after 5 minutes of inactivity or so. Also, on the app I can't seem to find how to get access to some of the self help guides. Is there a way to do this other than being on a desktop version?

I think it needs to be made clear that if there's any problems or queries regarding chats for people not to discuss them in the public rooms, rather going to the listener community room or support room or asking a peer support for help. Emphasis on this and confidentiality and listener "etiquette"
