╰☆╮

Hey mods! I'd like to invite you all along for our first EVER Group Moddiscussion on Friday, Jan 30 at 5pm EST in the Group Mod Zone room.

Some questions to get us started:

➊ What are some challengingsituations you might encounter as a moderator in Group Support?
➋What can we do to ensure members feel welcome andsupported?
➌ How can we help members to feel safe in Group Support?
➍ When is it appropriate to delete comments or mute a member?
➎ Any other concerns (please comment below with any additional issues you'd like us to discuss so I can be sure to accommodate these)

Look forward to catching up with you allツ

This idea seems very interesting. Is this for booth adult and teen mods?

I think you should address personal agendas and misunderstandings, Heather. Because I've seen that happen a lot in the WR. And one of my friends has gotten quite sick of it :D I might not be able to participate but I woud like it if you touched upon those issues :)

As teens we don't have a Group Mod Zone room and so I don't think it'll be for teens!

For the question n.2 I think the best way for supporting people who come to site is to star talking in a friendly but polite and normal way and try to act in calm and wise way and not to judge them at all Let them talk about what they want instead of making them explain what they might not want to tell

I think this is definitely needed, especially so we can discuss trolls and maybe more methods of how to approach them because it's frustrating to see in the chats!

I'm not sure if I will be able to make it for the discussion but I thought about a few things lately and thought I'd just take them up here and maybe you guys can integrate them in your discussion later (I might maybe make it, time zones are just so different ...) if you find them interesting enough.

1) More clear descriptions of what the chatrooms are for (i.e. no random chat in the SYS, no discussion on suicide, WR= lighthearted chat, SYS=serious room where people can share their storiesDS=support for depression, no suicide-help etc). Maybe as a pop-up before someone enters the chatroom.

2) The problem of groupswho take over a room and talk about private stuff/inside jokes/random stuffso that new members don't feel they fit in into the already existing dynamics of the room, more clear guidelines on that (I have had a lot of complaints about that the last two weeks)

3) Possibility of a new room where regular members who know each other through the chatrooms and want to chat more randomly as friends andhang out (maybe to solve the first two issues)

4) Listeners and mods taking over the Waiting Room and listeners who share their stories and problems in the member rooms. More specific guidelines about keeping the listener and member sides of the website apart to keep professionalism up, maybe also in the description of the rooms

5) More moderator coverage.Every time I join the DS or SYS, there are no moderators there. We need more coverage.

6) I want to know what we are supposed to do when people are flirting with each other in the rooms. Of course that was bound to happen if people talk with each other day in and day out. I know members who fell in love with each other. How are we to handle that?

7) Give some members who have been around a lot and have been extra-supportive (there are many of them who really do a great job in the rooms, they are almost like listeners) some cool badge or something that we moderators can suggest them for. They should get some credit and it would encourage more supportive and empathetic behaviour.

8) Just need to say: I love all the great work the moderators are doing here! <3

I totally agree with the third point, when you come into the chatroom nearly everyday (Like me) You tend to become close friends with a lot of members, and when you become close friends you have a lot of inside jokes, and according to other mods, that's annoying for them. But in my time as a mod, I've never really seen anyone uncomfortable with inside jokes. In any case, that's a good option.

Will there be notes posted afterward? I won't be able to make it sadly.
