*Trigger Warning* -- A quick note about the self-harm recovery team badge

*Trigger Warning*

I know many of you have noticed that the badge color for the Self-Harm Recovery Team in group support rooms has changed. Changing badge colors is not something we usually do by request and is not something I plan to accomodate again in the future except for very rare and special circumstances.

Because of the large number of team members that expressed concern that the previous color was triggering, the choice was made to change color to the current one. I take responsibility for the oversight and apologize to anyone that may have been triggered by the previous color choice.

Please tag others and spread the word.heart

@Kate

Thanks for being mindful to those who have issues with the sites accessibility.

I'm not familiar with colors being triggering but what I am aware of is that color and contrast are serious accessibility topics.

What I would hope to seeing happen is that the 7 cups community raises awareness about web accessibility and acknowledges (by following accessibility guidelines) that the choice of color and contrast is not just a matter of taste, it's a tool for including or excluding lots of people who can't just adjust to colors.

Why it is important? Have a look at this:

https://accessibility.blog.gov.uk/2016/06/17/colour-contrast-why-does-it-matter/

Thanks for this thread and everything you all do here.

@kindSoul10, as far i am concerned colour is not my main point to talk,make it pink or green or any,it is not of that much importance but i have point that I dont believe colours should be such a major part of issue,u can see a pretty same colour in real life too,what would u do then?

@JovialOne I find that it's not that often that I would see such a colour combination in real life, unless printed in a book or something. There are also a combination of factors, looking at flowers is different than say reading text. I do experience real life triggers for migraines though, the sun coming at certain angles, walking up/down an escalator that's not working due to the lines. And then there are non-visual ones, like weather changes. I also experience many other triggers for other conditions.

In real life, I avoid when I can. Sometimes it's unavoidable and I suffer health effects because of them.

I do find some of the attitudes here (7cups in general at times) quite dismissive. There's lots of advice being given, like learn to manage your triggers better. I've never heard from anywhere how this is possible, nor any resources being shared on how to accomplish this. The skills I have regarding triggers are on identifying and avoiding/limiting as possible. When it comes to triggers on the site, that would mean avoiding the parts of the site that trigger me. If this is what we want people doing, that is far from being inclusive.

@JovialOne I have a sensory processing disorder and autism, I do have hypersensibility to colors, lights, noises/sounds, textures, pain and more, those may be a lot more painful for me. Even offline, I can get a sensory overload, get exhausted, in pain, overwhelmed and more. some flashy colors, like the actual support plus and self harm badges, old orange button, are impossible for me to look at. I avoid them and many other things offline which are too hurtful. 7 cups is an emotional website and should be more adjustable for those with some types of disability. many of them can't even use the site. I have some trust that it will be improved in future, but it could start by not having this kind of colors in badges

@kindSoul10 I think it wasn't about the color itself. It's about what it could be associated with.I believe there was a strong association witht he colour of a very special fluid that helps keep your body oxygenated, after it dries out. Not sure. But my gut feeling tells me that's it.
