Pop up rooms and Open Chats explained
Hi everyone!
Below is just some info on Open Chats and Pop Up rooms that I hope will bring some clarity and answer some common questions.
What are pop up rooms?
Pop up rooms are rooms that are not open 24/7. They are only opened when a moderator is present.
What pop up rooms do we have?
Addiction
Bipolar Disorder
Borderline Personality Disorder
Eating Disorders
Mindfulness
OCD/BFRB
Parenting & Pregnancy
Self-Harm
Personality Disorder
Trauma
General support (Adults only)
50+
Free Hugs
Support session (Used for mix and match sessions)
There are also some subcommunity teams that have a 24/7 room as well as a pop up room for discussion use that are not listed here.
Who can request to have a pop up room opened?
Community centered moderators can request to open the room of the Subcommunity they belong to. Global moderators are also able to host open chats in any pop up rooms.
What are open chats?
Open chats are sessions that are not guided but facilitated by a moderator. Members are able to guide the topic as long as it relates to the purpose of the room. The moderator ensures that the topic is appropriate and encourages a supportive environment.
How can we have a pop up room opened?
Any doorkeeper is able to open a room when necessary. Community moderators are also able to open a room and they are here 24/7! See the schedule here to see which community mod is on duty and feel free to reach out and request a room to be opened or closed at any time.
What is important to remember when doing pop up open chats?
- Make sure there is not a scheduled support session already planned to take place.
- Make sure you are aware of subcommunity guidelines before opening a room (These can usually be found in the forums however the CML would be a good person to ask if you are unsure.)
- Use the banner to ensure you have a healthy level of activity and that people are aware that an open chat is taking place.
- Announce your open chat 5 minutes before in other rooms. Tips for advertising sessions can be found here.

The List for Pop up sessions is very short is there a way to add some new pop ups ?
Example-
Game Pop Up , people enjoy the games like trivia and movies and games etc...
The General Pop up can that be used for what topics ?
Also what about Support Session ? what can we have in the pop up ?
@Tyedyedbutterfly65 pop up discussions are ones that have not been prescheduled meaning you can do them when you have time provided there is not already a session scheduled in the calendar.
The pop up room above are rooms that are only open when there is a mod present.
If you wanted to do games you could do that in MH or any other room as any room can have fun events.
The general support room is a pop up room that covers many topics relating to mental health! you should check out the general support subcommunity for more info
