Sharing Circle Introduction/Conclusion Survey Results

Hi everyone,

Thank you for participating in the “Let it be” survey. We had over 100 responses to the survey, and a high proportion of those had additional comments which were really helpful in understanding the reasons behind why people voted the way they did. It means a lot to know that so many people care so much about Sharing Circle.

Information that came from the survey:

- More members than listeners responded.

- More participants than hosts responded.

- Out of the three options (keep “Love, give me grace...” the same, remove it completely, replace it with something else) keeping it the same was the most popular (50%), followed by replacing it with something different (35.6%) then getting rid of it completely (14.4%).

In recognition of the fact that the largest group wanted to keep it the same, we will be keeping this section in the script. However, as a fairly large proportion also wanted to change it, we will be trialling the following change to the preceding paragraph:

“Please imagine taking the hand of any person present or take a deep breath. At the end, if comfortable, please say “let it be”. Alternatively you may say another mantra that has significance for you, or simply say "let it be" as a mantra in its own right.”

Thank you again for your input in this matter, and see you around in Sharing Circle soon :)

Sounds great. Does this mean we are allowed to say "Let it sleep'" or "Let it go" which is versions of Let It Be that we already use in tennie land Sharing Circle sessions.

Personally I use "Let it roar! 🦁" which means a couple things: First and foremost I'm very concerned with how releasing suppressed emotions is the core process in healing. To roar is an emotional expression and is a loud and clear release! Roaring can also be a battle cry for a threatened animal. But that way, there's no constricted emotions - it's released - 'this is how I feel!' A battle cry is not considered controlled or always a 'appropriate' emotion since it does indeed contain anger. And that's exactly the point! We need all our emotions, unconstrained by outdated conservative social stigma and without judgment for whether the emotion is good or bad. Released anger passes in a second and gives space for more positive emotions later on. Held back anger can turn to resentment that holds people back entire lifetimes. Let it roar! It's also a poke to the mass suggestion contained in a collective mantra which also contains social control. I say let it roar! Let you roar as you are! That's also the point of sharing circle - to give undivided and non-judgmental attention to the individual's emotions of the moment. Let it roar, you! And of course finally it's to bring the attention over from diverting our attention in a sharing circle that's supposed to be about the people in it away from any deity or religion (it's a placeholder for 'amen', which is directed to God) and back to the individuals in sharing circle - let it roar, you right there here in sharing circle! The moment the religious framework is removed from sharing circle is the moment that there's no need for a modified counter-phrase anymore. Then the roaring will come natural and unconstrained. Again, I don't mind that a lot of people here do indeed view our purpose in all we do as somehow being in service of a deity, including sharing our emotions in sharing circle. But a lot of us don't view that world at all, and those that do aren't even directing their attention to the same deity! For example, 7 Cups has a huge Indian userbase. In India, 80 % are Hindus and not Christians! The only thing we all 100% can all put ourselves behind, regardless of spirituality or lack thereof, is that we're all equal individuals that deserve to feel heard and supported. So I say to everyone here, in sharing circles or otherwise: Let it roar! 🦁

Ugh, I wrote this in the app, but it seems the app removes all line breaks and paragraphs!! So the text just became one long blurb. Here's the original:
