Collecting Useful Phrases and Questions for Group Chatrooms!
This is a Call to Our Room Supporters, Moderators, Listeners and Members!
Let me first send a word of appreciation for all the efforts we, especially our room supporters and moderators, have been making to make the chatrooms feel safe, supportive and inclusive! Thanks for all you have done and look to do
Next, I want to introduce you to a big project
We are planning to construct “Useful Phrases and Questions For Group Chatrooms”. This could be a huge help in feeling guided when we go to a room and want to contribute in making the rooms feel kind and supportive, but feel lost about how to go about it.
In achieving that, we call for your help. We can only come up with a “list of useful phrases and questions” together!
So please use this thread to post some useful phrases and questions. You may post some general ones and also some room-specific ones (like specific to Relationship Support room, or Friendship room etc). As for questions, you can come up with ice-breakers, or support-related questions.
Let’s first focus on doing a list for member rooms, then we can do a similar effort for listener rooms
It is time to let loose your kind and creative mind.
Let’s get this going!
Being kind has a profoundly positive effect on happiness.
This sounds useful. 👌
What plans do you guys have for this weekend/night/day/morning?
Whats your favorite pizza topping?
Whats your favorite song?
What is your favorite memory?
Support room 24/7
What are your coping strategies?
What's your favorite way to self-care/relax?
In Sharing Circle it can be tricky to welcome newcomers and let them know what's going on without disrupting the session for the people already in the room.
I recently saw a host welcome someone new to the room by saying "Welcome username1, we're currently listening to username2's share. Please feel free to join in and give them your support".
I thought that was a really nice way to immediately include the newcomer while keeping focus on the sharer.
@Fristo
P.s. this project is a fantastic idea!
@Gozzil
I agree, and I blatantly yoinked that phrase for my repertoire, as soon as I saw it. :) It's just so welcoming while simultaneously redirecting attention back to the sharer --without being rude or abrupt, as can happen unintentionally.
@Gozzil
Agree, it looks good as long as members understand how SC works. Actually some time ago I stumbled upon a newbie entering an ongoing sharing or discussion and then without any warning, they just babbled about what they want to share. I think it's important to familiarise everyone, especially newbies, with the aim of each chatroom and how a conversation there should be conducted. I wonder if we can create an "Introduction" project or something like that in relation to this.
@11820Read
Thanks for your ideas Read. I love that Sharing Circle is open to everyone and we get everyone from complete newbies to people who have been here years joining. However it does mean that situations like you described happen pretty regularly. We have recently updated the script so that the rules will be repeated more regularly, fingers crossed that helps a bit.
Why is it so easy to fill our minds with negative thoughts?
How can we work through the negative thoughts?
How do we spend the first 8 hours in a day?
Not sure this is what you are looking for, but good ice breaker questions.
@Fristo
Some members get triggered by long messages in the room, asking for messages to be broken up helps.
@AllieSunshine
exactly, and long blocks of text are awkward on certain devices.
@Fristo
I found your idea sincerely amazing, i think that doing this we can be able to increase positive behaviors and interactions for the Group Chat Rooms.
I want to share something that i have learned in one course that i have taken that i think it could help us to think better about your idea and how to come up with the bests Useful Phrases and Questions for Group Chat Rooms.
There was one topic in this course where we talked about how purpose in life is a central goal of self-organization in life.
The first point related to who am I, what is my central theme, what is my character?
The second is very important because it aims to motivate the intention to dedicate resources. By resources, I'm talking about your time, your energy, maybe your money or other things. It's basically dedicating what you have to specific directions and specific goals.
One thing a purpose in life does is help you focus on the things that matter most in your life. So that you're not so spread out over so many different things that your energy and your time is being devoted to too many things, and you don't have focus.
Therefore, a purpose in life reduces conflict by building focus for your efforts. Very important concept.
The second point is to actually ask this question:
What are the directions of my life?
What are my life's goals?
What is more important?
What do I value in my life?
How do we discover what we value? This process, incidentally, is called self-assertion. So when we are asserting ourselves, we begin to reflect on personally relevant values.
This is a really key concept and very much related to purpose in life. So think of it as, what do I value? How do I find out?
I'll give you an idea that I have learned on the course. Maybe you even want to start with your smartphone. What's on your smartphone wallpaper? On my wallpaper is my dog who died recently, other times my father who also died 3 months ago is on my wallpaper, and sometimes I'm changing for landscapes, motivational phrases and so on. So your dog could be on your smartphone, or your mom or dad. It could be someone you lost, it could be anything.
In other words, what I'm saying, these are the things that matter a lot to me in my life.
This might be a great idea to start thinking about what you value most.
So ask yourself what's on your smartphone?
I hope that sharing this lesson that i have learned can be helpful to make us think about make your idea the most amazing and supportive possible.
However, i'll think about some Useful Phrases and Questions and i'll post here again...
Thank you for your initiative doing this...![]()
An idea that I have of a phrase for the rooms is "Meep meep" as a greeting because it is lighthearted and many people understand what it means. @azuladragon34 would definitely know what I am talking about.
