Get On The Floor - Challenge!

April 16th, 2023

In the modern age, we are getting too comfortable with everything. We always have a chair, bed, sofa, or stool around to sit.

We may not realize how much of disadvantage we are putting our bodies at by not sitting on the floor, like olden times.

Think about it. If sitting on furniture were that good, would we be losing our posture, spine alignment, core strength and lower body mass? Would we be having troubles like sciatica, spondylitis, impingement, slip disc, and piriformis?

It's about time we start small and bring about a big change. Get on the floor!

Benefits of sitting on the ground

  1. Improved posture: Sitting on the ground can help to improve your posture by encouraging you to sit up straight and engage your core muscles.
  2. Increased flexibility: Sitting on the ground can help to increase your flexibility by stretching your hip and leg muscles while getting down and getting up.
  3. Enhanced circulation: Sitting on the ground can help to improve circulation by reducing pressure on your lower body and allowing blood to flow more freely.
  4. Reduced back pain: Sitting on the ground can help to reduce back pain by promoting better spinal alignment and reducing pressure on your back muscles.
  5. Connection to nature: Sitting on the ground can help to foster a sense of connection to nature and the earth, which can be calming.

Challenge:
1) How much did you sit on the floor last week? Double that this week! (if your answer is zero, try at least one hour this week)
2) Create awareness. Tell your loved ones about it irl. On 7cups, tag a few people so they can benefit too.

This is a very interesting post @DonaldDraper. I personally love sitting on the floor and can't sit on a chair in a way they were designed to be sat on, but it always feels socially unacceptable to sit on the floor.

I love sitting on the floor! I don't sit on the sofa, I sit in front of it. At school I sit on a chair during lessons, but in learning support, I sit on the floor.

It's more grounding, more comfy

@DonaldDraper

I usually like to spread out my stuff and work sitting on the floor only. When I'm working on my laptop, the snacks, my reference material, and especially when I'm on no device mode studying with textbooks, i love spreading the books all over and taking a good look at the stuff and curling up with the main book to study. it's fun to work that way.

The mildly cold floor makes sleeping easier too (while studying) lol. Also, it's a good place for emotional breakdown too XD.

I like sitting on the floor sometimes but it can hurt after a while because my body is fairly bony and it feels like a lot of pressure of my bones.

Yeah, no, I'll pass on that. My apartment has no pad under the carpet so the floor is not particularly soft. Also, I haven't vacuumed enough lately.
