Regaining our mental strength.

We live in a world full of stimuli, in which we can face stimulus after stimulus without any rest. We can finish watching an episode of our favorite series and then start watching the next episode without any breaks. We live in a time of endless opportunities, with communication channels open 24 hours a day.

The rest needed to regain mental strength.

As much as the benefits of mental rest are necessary, it is very difficult to give up the stimuli that give us pleasure. Day after day we saturate our mental system, not realizing that rest is within our reach, but sometimes we don't exercise it. This is because we are not aware that the world can give us a moment of respite, if requested.

Interestingly, a certain candy company created a “Wi-fi free zone”. In these spaces there are devices that block any signal that allows access to the internet, in addition to having benches for us to sit on. The purpose of these “Wi-fi-free zones” is simple and clear: take time to read a good book, or chat with someone without the interruption of modern technology.

Are we that addicted? Have we reached the point where we need spaces that free us from the constant notifications and bombardments of information?

Options to disconnect and, finally, rest.

There are several solutions to clear the mind, without forcing us to do so. One of these solutions is meditation, which consists of performing breathing exercises, without noise or distraction around, to achieve introspection, thinking about positive and relaxing messages and, finally, being able to not think about anything that can create stress in everyday life.

Another option is to spend 15 minutes (or more if you wish) to yourself. You can use this time to take a relaxing bath, take a nap, or listen to music that you really like. Close your eyes and imagine this scene… You already feel relaxed, don't you? Why is it so hard to take time for ourselves and is it so easy to surf the internet?

Think about it for a moment.

Another option to disconnect from the world is to perform certain physical activities, in order to force your mind not to think about anything. It can be a perfectly structured exercise in someone's company, a solitary walk in the park, any activity that doesn't involve any routine.

In addition, there are other techniques, such as looking at an object (a lit candle, for example) and concentrating solely on the object, making an effort not to think about anything else. Gradually the mind will begin to empty, allowing for a few minutes of inner silence, without distractions or interruptions.

Finally, don't forget that, as much as today's society strives to produce stimuli, the power to renounce such stimuli is in your hands, and so is the possibility of finding your own pleasure. That means you are in charge of the situation. Getting lost to find yourself, going out for a breath and then coming back are pleasures we deny ourselves without even realizing it. We are afraid of missing out on things that actually happen slowly. We don't need to be afraid of losing situations, we should just be afraid of not having time to ourselves and not enjoying life.

Allow a moment to pass; maybe, right now, you'll get something much better. smiley
