Ooo in my first time I reached the top (pretty high and scary) then got stuck cuz the belt thing was not really safe and I started looking downwards and went @_@ till my hero in a shining helmet came to bring me down xD
Fun times, fun times.
@CookieMonsterOfficial
Haha!! Sounds like you had a very eventful time 😳🙈 Glad you were saved!!
Skytop tower
Shawangunks Ridge, NY

@Positron2 Edited the size of your pic so it all fits in the screen.
This is beautiful!!
@Kate
First is a boulder scramble through giant rocks at the base of the cliff. Red arrows painted on the rocks lead you through the maze. Then there is a crack in the cliff that forms a steep stairway for begineers. From the top of the tower one can see Vermont to the North and NYC to the South.
@Positron2
That looks amazing!! Wish I could climb there!! :)
I actually did rock climbing more because I was forced to at a camp ̄へ ̄ I'm scared of heights but literally got pushed to climb to the peak. It's invigorating in a way, and definitely helps a lot in the health and stress management but personally I'd never do it again ●︿●
@Lanolin
I
I went a couple of times in a gym and outside. I must say that going outside is the best. You work so hard to get to the top it takes focus and sometimes tenacity but if you don't give up and make it to the top you get a beautiful view and you feel like you are on top of the world. None of your problems matter up on the top because you're bigger than them. If you can work hard to get to the top of that cliff you can certainly overcome your problems.
@compassionateYard7526
Omg Compassion, I love how you think about it in the exact same way as me!!! The feeling at the top is incredible and its like any troubles you have just go. It is definately a break from day to day stress!!
Always wanted to. Did a couple times in a gym. My joints told me that my dreams will never come true and never do it again
@plumFig3360
Hi Plum, sorry to hear about the joint issues you had. I have a joint condition too. If you ever feel like trying it again, try starting off doing it for just a small period of time and try and build it up until a length of time you feel comfortable with. Climbing is very physically demanding and even professionals struggle with joints.
I hope if you ever do try again it is less painful for you 😁
@KeepFighting4Yourself
yeah people say stuff like that but I climb for twenty minutes if that maybe less and my shoulder hurt for four weeks afterwards. Tried again later. Same thing. Swimming too. Swam three laps and shoulder hurts if I lift my elbow too high . Maybe it
@plumFig3360
Aww, im so sorry to hear that. Maybe find a sport where it is more leg based, cycling for example where there is less stress on your arms.
Hope you are well x
@KeepFighting4Yourself
im a defect
@plumFig3360
You definately arent a defect. Its just like I cant run because of my heart conditions. Its just another hurdle in your journey that you crash into but you have to pick yourself back up off the ground and keep going. :)
I have climbed every week for 14 years. I guess I have climbing to thank for me still being here today.
When I was 2 i was diagnosed with 2 heart conditions and was told I wouldnt be able to do much exercise because my heart couldnt handle it. When I was 4, i started just for fun. Since then I have never looked back. There is something about hanging by your fingertips 10, 20, 30 metres in the air that feels so satisfying. The stubbornness in me makes me force myself to finish each climb and each time I top a climb it feels just as good. Unlike with some sports where it gets boring because it can be repetitive, I dont find that with climbing, there are so many different routes you can climb.
When I was 15 I was diagnosed with another heart condition... (yep, on number 3 now) and a joint condition. I was also told then that climbing wouldnt be an option because it causes too much strain on joints. I made it my mission to prove to them and to myself I could still do it. It was a difficult journey but starting by going for 30 minutes a week and now I can climb for 6-8 hours at a time. I have also been a climbing instructor for the past year which is great helping people with a sport I am so passionate about.
What I hope people get from this is even when it feels like everything is stacked against you, if you have that thing you are passionate about, you find it within yourself to keep going. Hopefully Ive inspired even just 1 person to give it a go or to try it again.
@Kate
I used to rock climb all the time. I went to a bouldering gym nearby. It was really nice being around other people. I made a few friends and it was good to have some physical activity to get out of my own head.
@Bush560
glad you met some friends!! The climbing community are so helpful and supportive. :)
Have you ever been rock climbing?
I have, yes. I've been rock climbing properly five times and absailing twice.
Did you go in a rock climbing gym or free climbing?
I've done rock climbing on outside gyms twice, on an inside gym twice and on a cliff face once. I enjoyed both the real rock climbing and the fake rock climbing. I probably prefered the real rock climbing but both were really good and I suggest trying either.
What are the benefits of rock climbing?
It's super fun. It's perfect if you like heights and a good way to try and conquer your fear if you don't. It's really satisifying to be able to reach the top. It's exercise but it's not like traditional exercise. It's great for building strength and it's an interesting experience.
@stuckintime92 What is absailing?!
@Kate
Abseiling is the going down part, so you climb up and then abseil back down. Basically being lowered back to the ground.
@Kate
Basically the opposite of rock climbing. You're all roped in at the top of the cliff and then you jump down and just kinda gently fall and sometimes you have to kick off the rock face to keep going til you reach the bottom.
I love rock climbing!!!! I went in utah on real rocks and sometimes behind my cousins house there's these trails with big boulders. Its fun to scale them! I like indoor climbing too. It's kinda like a mental puzzle trying to figure out the best places to put your hands and your feet! It's just relaxing in my opinion. Like you get in a zone in your head and don't focus on anything else. Plus i love american ninja warriors and rock climbers always do the best because of grip strength XD
@Kate
I love rock climbing! I did it at a gym for awhile, but then I did it freely when I was on vacation. The practice really helped when I went waterfall rappelling because rock climbing is a big part of it.
@ilikecake22
im so glad you enjoy doing it. Ive never tried rappelling, ill have to give it a go
