Food Alternatives
Put down some food alternatives in this tread :) I'll begin.
pizza: A thing I'v been doing a lot is putting some tomatoe sauce and goat cheese on a piece of whole wead bread (sort of a baguette not just a slice of bread) to get in some more grains :)
hot chocolate: Almond milk+cocoa add some stevia or honey to taste :)
make oatmeal banana pancakes to get in some fruits and oats :D
Avacados.... These can be a great staple for various things and reasons. You can use avacados in place of butter and mayo. You can use it on toast as a spread, or for things like egg and potato salads etc... (saves on unhealthy fats and calories)
Hummus...you can use this in the same manner as avacados. For deviled eggs, you can remove the yolk and instead of using mayo, you can use hummus and mix with the egg and put back in. (saves on unhealthy fats and calories)
Applesauce.... can use in place of oils for most baking (in cakes etc..)
Squash/Zuchinni Squash..... you can use in place of pasta noodles by using a spiralizer. (Saves on Carbs and calories)
Cauliflower....You can use cauliflower in place of different things such as regular pizza crust by using a food processor or similar type tool, that breaks it down. Then bake and turn into a pizza crust for an "almost" calorie free, low carb, pizza crust and such.
@PoliteOcean I like the suggestions but carbs and calories don't have to be bad for you :D it just depends on where they come from! :D I can have a 300 calorie smoothie or a 2 calorie coke light and the smoothie would be better though it certainly doesn't safe you on calories :o
I really like how all your alternatives are quite natural and include things that could really improve our diet :D
you applesauce idea makes me think of what I do with apple and oats :o I cut 3 apples into pieces and put some oats on them that I've couted with some soy butter since it's lower in fat but does give you that little fat we need in our diet you can also try coconut oil or just leave it as it is but then the oats will form less of a crust Iput it in the oven and eat it during the day when I want a snack :D if the apples aren't sweet enough for you you can add some maple syrup or stevia:D this helps you get in fruits and grains!
@colourfulWatermelon53
Yes, but some people need to be careful with their "Carbs and Fats" as well as sodium.. (Diabetic sufferers, as well as Heart patients etc...) Especially in America.... As well, not everyone's body can tolerate certain kinds of carbs, fats and such. As well as there are also those who have "calorie-restricted" diets. (I'm a nurse) so....these are some of my alternatives. Everything should be in moderation...and that includes "fruits and vegetables" alike.
And yes, I feel a more "natural" diet is obviously our best and healthiest choice. Doesn't mean we can always stick to that, but the more a person can, the better for them.
sweet potatoes instead of potatoes
maple syrup instead of sugar
spices instead of salt
@TortueDesBois I love seet potatoes so much more than regular potatoes :D
I hate that it's quite hard to get maple syrup in the netherlands, when I do find it it's expensive but I purchase it anyway oops :P
I grew up with spices instead of salt! :D I have so many spices that they don't fit in my cabnit hahaha.
