Nutrient Focus of the Day Pt. 3
Hi guys! I wanted to a series focusing on the benefits of each nutrient to help us as a community be mindful of the different kinds of nutrients and minerals in our body and how we can perhaps incorporate it into our diet for a healthier living!
Today's nutrient is: Vitamin K :)
Vitamin K is an important vitamin that plays a key role in our blood clotting mechanism and important for tissue damage control and repair!
Vitamin K is responsible for many functions in our body including:
1. Blood clotting (Vitamin K plays a key role in our body's blood clotting mechanism and is required to form these clots. Healthy levels of Vitamin K allow our body to be ready to stop bleeding during lesions and prevent major tissue damage)
2. Important for bone maintenance. (Vitamin K is important for our bone health as well as it is involved in processes that regulate bone building.) --> Also works with Vitamin D
- While seemingly lesser functions, Vitamin K has been shown to play in many other bodily processes we aren't 100% sure yet! Therefore its always beneficial to play it safe and eat your healthy doses of Vitamin K.
Good sources of Vitamin K!
- Veggies (Spinach and dark greens ~again common theme XD)
- Vegetable Oils (Sunflower, soybean and many various oils)
- Fruits (Bananas, apples, berries, etc!)
- Animal sources (Cheese, Liver and Chicken)
