UTI question...
Maybe this isn't the place for the thread but I'm not sure so..
Does anyone here have had experiences with UTI's? I regularly have them. I've tried everything I possibly can to fight this...
It was recently prescribed to me a 3 month treatment to see how things go but since I have an anti-depressive now too, I don't want to mix them together..
So my question is, is it possible to heal an UTI without medication? If not, is there any light medication for it? And what methods do you have to prevent them?
Hello @ Booklover95
I agree with what @Starryeyedliz had suggested. Drinking plenty of water to flush your system out. Often Cranberry juice, not the cocktail, will help as well. And as I understand avoiding intercourse is hard to do, maybe after intercourse use the restoom to urinate or even shower or wash the area may help. My other suggestions is to take urnate often (with the increased water intake I have no doubt this will naturally occur), stay clean and dry, and consider taking ProBiotics.
Good Luck
UTIs can become pretty serious fast, affecting the kidneys, so if you don't want to treat every one you have you should talk to a medical professional about what symptoms equate to needing to treat the infection with medication.
Many medications can be taken together - it helps to have a list of your medications when you see a doctor or nurse (keeping the list on your phone or a physical copy in your wallet may help) so that you know they are safe to take together right when prescribed. Also many pharmacists are amazing at this and some are capable of altering a prescription if needed whereas others might just contact your doctor if a switch is recommended.
For prevention in addition to what others said above
- breathable undies for example cotton and looser pants can reduce the amount of bacterial growth at the UT opening. Also related, do not sit around in a wet bathing suit.
- urinate fairly quickly after intercourse
- someone mentioned cranberries, the effective agent is actually a specific sugar that prevents bacteria from adhering to the bladder's walls. We can't mention drug names - google will tell you though!
- Reducing sugar (glucose) intake
- Some find probiotics help
Lower caffeine, more water, cranberries help. I drink lots of juice and water.
