Toxicity Warning

Are you not feeling safe or nurtured on 7 Cups and have been attacked and interrogated instead of supported, heard and listened to?

You're not alone. Take care of yourself and know that just because people are on here doesn't mean they have good intentions towards you.

Lots of people on here don't know how to be assertive and speak from the heart and will instead attack agressively or passive-agressively.

It can be terrifying, demoralizing and horrifying. It can be very, very lonely.

Best thing to do is rise above; take care of yourself and ignore toxic people as best you can and keep your head down and work on yourself:

Thank you for creating this post. It's a nice reminder for everyone.

There are many good, kind people here but there are some people who do seem to have bad intentions. In all honesty, it's been a close to 2 years since I've actually felt safe here. Especially when it comes to sharing anything about myself. I've found it best to limit my time here and watch where I go and who I interact with. I'm less likely to interact with new members or listeners because it's so easy for people to make new accounts and when they return they seem to double down on trolling and stalking you. I'm not very assertive myself but I'm also not going around aggressively or passive aggressively. Life is hard enough without other people making it even harder.

Thanks so much for this. I've experienced varying degrees of abuse on here, one being hate towards women. I guess that's everywhere though. One might think it wouldn't be allowed here, but it is. I've learned it's best to use this platform as a tool rather than a lifeline. Come here when you're feeling lonely, but don't expect it to solve anything or pull you out of a crisis or even a deep depression. Expect that some people will be abusive and block them immediately for your own mental wellbeing. Show gratitude for the ones who do care, but still be cautious. Be supportive for others, but always be your own best friend. The list you made is really great for self care and love, which definitely should be each individual person's priority.

@Dallady

I have felt like that on here a couple of times that almost caused me to leave 7 Cups.

While I don't think it would say my experience has been as extreme as to say I've felt attacked, most of the groups and forums have been... Weird. So I actually don't normally engage anymore (this post happened to catch my eye), but on my third try, I have found a therapist on the subscription service that is right for me and is helping me through a lot, so I count myself lucky in the end. Thank you for the wonderful list of reminders - I will print and post on the wall above my desk. 🙂

@Dallady yes ✨💖. I am doing gratitude journaling with 3 things I am grateful for a day since Nov 2022, some missed days but I always pick back up and it has made me feel so much better in general.
