Don't Want to Sleep
Hi, I'm Sarah. I'm having trouble sleeping. I stay awake for hours because I feel like sleep is a waste of time and I don't want to wake up in the morning to deal with another day. I don't do anything very productive in the time I don't sleep. Also, the lack of sleep also makes life harder as I can't focus during school and need to sleep when I get home. I'm not sure how to motivate myself to sleep anymore. I just stay awake until I know I can't. Does anyone else have this problem?
@adventurousPenguin3221 .... Hi Sarah, Not exactly this problem, but I have problems sleeping too. Do you have more questions? Or just need reassurance you are not alone. You are NOT alone, dear. Sending you hugs, Platy

Yes I had this problem too, but sleeping is very important thing, because if sleep is cut short, the body doesnt have time to complete all of the phases needed for muscle repair, memory consolidation and release of hormones regulating growth and appetite. Then we wake up less prepared to concentrate, make decisions, or engage fully in school and social activities.
If you having problems with falling asleep then try stay more busy at day time, try new hobbies, work out, hang out with friends :)

Hi Sarah. I'm sorry that you're having these problems with sleeping. I don't have the same problem, but I have a similar problem. I often don't want to go to sleep because I think bad thoughts will creep into my mind as I am trying to fall asleep, so I put off going to sleep by doing unproductive things.
Here are some possible ideas for how to motivate yourself to sleep. They have worked for me, but I don't know which (if any) will work for you:
- When it's night and you don't want to sleep, remind yourself how getting a good night's sleep makes you feel better. It seems like you know from experience that it will help you focus more in school and not need to sleep when you get home from school.
- Give yourself a bedtime. Your bedtime is the time that you want to be in bed at in order to get a good amount of sleep during the night. Then, set an alarm half an hour before that time. When the alarm goes off, finish up what you're doing and start getting ready to go to bed.
- Remind yourself of how sleep helps your body stay healthy. Look at the other posts in this thread for examples.
- Paint/draw/color/etc. a picture of the word sleep, and make it look beautiful and relaxing. Then, hang it in your room or a place you will see it often. When you look at it, you will think about sleep as a good thing.
- Get exercise during the day. This will tire you out more. If you can only sleep when you're utterly exhausted, then exercise will make that time come sooner because it will make you more tired.
- If the reason you don't want to sleep is that you don't want to wake up and deal with another day, then consider getting help for depression or figuring out what is causing that.
Best wishes and hugs <3
