Hello, Im new here and delighted to be so. Tomorrow is my 51st birthday. I want to lose the 40 pounds needed to be healthy. Ive been struggling with my eating. I am using it as a coping mechanism as I am depressed about my Dad having Alzheimers.

Hello there! Thank you so much for checking in with us here in the Healthy Living Community. Its so nice to meet you. And we are so very happy to have you here!... I'm Ocean the Community Leader. I first want to say that I wish you the Loveliest and Happiest of Birthday to you!.. I hope that you enjoyed it to the absolute fullest!
I applaud you for wanting to live a healthier lifestyle and take charge of your health. Its great that you realize that you would like to do whats needed to take off extra weight. I;m sorry to hear that you've been struggling with your eating. I can relate to how challenging that can be. Nobody is perfect and we all can struggle for sure, Even with the healthiest of eaters.
I'm sorry to hear that you are dealing with medical issues with your father. That can surely make it difficult to stay on track when you are dealing with issues regarding your loved ones........ During times like this, while it can be a challenge, you surely need to try to make some time for yourself and be sure to get in some proper "Self-Care" time! And make sure that your health needs are being met as well in every way......
I'm not sure what you have started doing for yourself to this point, but, I would suggest to start "Small"...... Start with "Portion Control" first.. Perhaps cutting down the "amount" that you eat, (rather than eliminating things off the bat)...... Once you are able to eat smaller portions and are able to get that under control, then next thing you might want to do is take a look at "What" you are eating, and try to either "scale back" some or "eliminate" some things and make "Healthier Swaps"!... (Swap any white foods for Brown/Whole grains... Like white Rice for brown rice, ....White Breads for whole grain breads,.. White Potatoes For sweet potatoes?)...... Perhaps find the "Fruits" that you like and enjoy and swap them in instead of eating any sweets like (chocolates or chips etc...)..........
Starting with the food is usually easier for some, and once they get that more controlled then its usually easier to incorporate some 'Activity" such as Walking.. which is easy for most to do.. Start with 10 minutes then work your way up to 3days/a week and keep going from there as you feel more ready and able.....
Since I don't know your full history or what you have been doing, or what you are capable of doing, these would be my suggestions on "starting small"~... If you have any other questions or need any help please feel free to reach out anytime, we are here to support you!... Also be sure to check in with us at the end of the week for our "WEEKLY CHECK-IN" where you can join us in talking (or venting) about our week and continue to get the weekly support that you need!..
