March Equinox Check-In
Happy March Equinox!
Also known as spring equinox for those of us in the northern hemisphere, or the autumnal equinox for those in the southern hemisphere. The seasons are changing which can often affect our moods and behaviours and yes even our hobbies!

For those entering spring, are you finding yourself “waking up from winter hibernation”, feeling more energized and motivated? Do you do spring cleaning?

By contrast, those entering fall, are you clinging to the last bits of summer, as you feel drawn to start preparing for winter? Do you have any fall cleaning habits?

When it comes to your hobbies do you find those also transition with the seasons? Maybe you only knit in the winter? Gardening can certainly be easier in spring and summer! So how do your hobbies change with the seasons?

@EmotionsListener Thanks for posting this about Spring! I do actually knit more in the winter than the summer which is strange, but I guess hats and gloves, scarves and leg warmers are needed then lol.

I find I knit more in the winter when I want to sit with a big growing blanket in my lap, but tend to do more crochet in the summer when I want to play with yarn. But many knitted projects are winter accessories as you say!

I have a few things I'm looking forward to, but I'll be watching on my walk tomorrow to see what flowers are getting ready to say "spring." Maybe some of the magnolias will be in bloom as well. Perhaps I should take some pictures if they are.

It looks like I might have to wait a few more days to get pictures, they are still getting ready, but it's supposed to be quite warm for the next few days then cool down which should speed them up then help them last longer once they bloom.

I love all the blossoms on the trees and the crocuses and we have a few hyacinths popping up 🌸

Seems the weather had ideas of it's own yesterday it stayed so much colder than they predicted so things definitely slowed down. It's been very foggy this morning so maybe it's a bit warmer, but it was disappointingly windy and cold yesterday. I need some "spring" in my steps! 🤣
The blossoms are great once they begin popping up indeed!

Spring is here, although the winter was so mild it has been like a very long springtime this year. I garden so I am looking forward to getting my hands in some dirt. I was only able to pull a few weeds last year, but I think I can do more this year. Trying to keep my pocketbook from emptying by trading plants with others.
I don't think the seasons affect me much, but I am excited at each one's beginning. Summer is my least favorite, but if I am swimming I am very happy. I can swim again and hopefully soon hike and kayak again. I like to be outdoors, no matter the season.
I hope all here are able to enjoy their favorite hobbies, and if not, have found new favorites.

It sounds like you've found lots of ways to enjoy the outdoors regardless of the season.
Here we had a mild winter as well which apparently led to an early but also longer maple tapping season because the weather stayed in that perfect range longer as well. Were there any hobbies you weren't able to enjoy because it was too warm?
I miss gardening, even the weeding! But it looks like I may have access to some soil again soon, I just need to get back into practice. Trading plants sounds like a great idea, are there any plants you like to grow in particular?
Hiking, swimming and kayaking sound like great ways to spend some time. I know I'm looking forward to getting out on my bike again soon. Do you have a favourite type of hiking spot?

It was too warm for sledding, making snowmen or having a snowball fight! I was able to go on my first real hike since my strokes just this week. Short and on flatlands but still pretty and the dirt under my feet felt so springy!
I like to grow a bit of everything. I prefer mostly succulents indoors, or plastic plants, because both are hard to kill and can be put in high places I can't reach to water. I prefer natives for outdoors for the wildlife around here, plus it is easy to care for. I will mix in a few of my favorite hybrids here and there...ranunculus, geranium, peony, ... I think my favorite is butterfly milkweek.
I'll bet the snowdrops were just beautiful! I would love some fruit trees to replace the obnoxious bradford pears. Birds like them but they are otherwise useless and have become invasive in my area.

It's regrettable that it was too warm for many of those fun winter activities there as well. I can't say I was upset to not have to shovel more, but at the same time it's nice to have snow.
Growing a variety sounds great. I know milkweed is another beautiful but undervalued plant, and so important to the monarch butterfly population as they pass through here each year.
Bradford pears are so smelly too, so I can understand wanting different fruit trees. Growing up we had pickling pear trees that were too old to really produce quality fruit, but it certainly made the animals happy and fortunately weren't quite so odiferous in the spring. We also had a lot of beautiful black walnut trees they really do go so fast and so straight. The squirrels would delight in all the nuts while also planting plenty of new volunteer trees. I may not miss the old house, but I miss the backyard and the nature.

Spring is my favourite time of year so I'm happy it's almost here. Its definitely a busy time for me, most my family is born in spring, near enough one birthday a week lol.
I like that the temperature is warmer, but still cool, hot is uncomfortable so this is the perfect temperature. I like that there is more blue skies appearing, but I'm also looking forward to the 'April showers', I love the smell and sound of rain. It's even more fun to swim while raining because of the patterns it makes on the water.
Snowdrops in my garden have just gone over, they were very beautiful and in some areas a full blanket covering of them. Daffodils are nearly done and I have some adorable dwarf varieties growing. The magnolia tree is in full bloom, my fruit trees are almost about to blossom, crocuses and primroses are out now, and tulips are almost here. I saw my first few bumble bees the other day too 🐝🌸🌼🌷🪻🌿

Sounds like it's quite the season of celebrations for you and your family! All those blossoms up and starting sound like sure signs of spring to me. Flowers may be a few weeks behind here but I'm looking forward to April showers leading into May flowers as well.
